Official Rules
Eligibility
Entrants are not required to be customers of The Book Depository Limited ("The Book Depository") to enter. No purchase is necessary. The prize-competition is open to residents of all countries to which The Book Depository delivers. Employees of Intrepid Guerba Ltd, Lonely Planet Publications Limited and The Book Depository and other representatives of their affiliates, and advisors and their immediate family members are ineligible to enter. Entry implies acceptance of the rules. The Book Depository can only accept those entries that are completed and submitted in the format designated on its competition page. Entrants must be 18 years or over.
You must promptly notify The Book Depository if you become aware of a potential breach of security, such as unauthorised disclosure or use of your password, username, or e-mail address. The Book Depository reserves the right to disqualify any entry from the competition if, in its sole judgment, the entrant has not complied with these Official Rules.
Prizes
Main Prize
There will be one winner of the main prize provided by Intrepid Guerba Ltd (“Intrepid”) comprising of a place for two people on Intrepid’s “Classic Rajasthan” trip (the "Prize"). The trip involves 14 nights accommodation based on two sharing a room (including one night on a sleeper train and one night in a deluxe permanent tent) and all activities and transport as outlined in the Intrepid Travel trip notes which can be found at http://www.intrepidtravel.com/tripnotes/HHSC/2012-01-01. The Prize also includes two economy class return air tickets (up to a maximum value of £1,000 per person), for the winner and his/her guest, from the nearest international airport to the winner that services flights to Indira Gandhi Airport new Delhi provided by Lonely Planet Publications Limited (“Lonely Planet”). The approximate maximum value of the Prize is £3500.
Conditions and winner responsibilities
The winner and guest will be responsible for all expenses incurred in connection with this trip that are not stated as being included in the trip details (available at http://www.intrepidtravel.com/hhsc). Examples of additional expenses include, but are not limited to, travel to and from your point of departure to the airport, any difference between the £1000 contribution per return flight payable by Lonely Planet and the actual cost of the flights, tips, personal spending money and all meals besides the three breakfasts and two dinners included. A budget of $300 (approximately £190) for meals is suggested.
The winner and guest must be holders of valid passports and are responsible for making visa arrangements for travel to and from India. They are also strongly advised to take out adequate insurance and to obtain health advice. The winner and guest must sign the standard Intrepid booking form and abide by Intrepid’s conditions and those of the relevant airline. Booking forms will be provided by Intrepid at the time the Prize is awarded to the winner.
The winner will work with Lonely Planet and Intrepid to coordinate bookings for the Prize. The winner must give both Lonely Planet and Intrepid a minimum of three months advance written notice before taking the Prize to allow them to arrange and book the flights and trip. The Prize is subject to availability at the time of booking, and any exclusion periods set by Lonely Planet and Intrepid which will be notified to the winner at the time of awarding the Prize. The winner must book the flights no later than 1 July 2012 and the date of the return flight must be no later than 31 March 2013. Failure to meet these time limits will result in loss of entitlement to the Prize and in such circumstance the Prize will be forfeited.
The winner's guest will have no vested interest in the Prize, and his/her eligibility to participate in the trip is conditional upon the winner's acceptance and participation in the trip. The winner’s guest must be over 18 years old and may be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility Release and Liability Waiver before the Prize is released.
Runner-up Prizes
There will be ten runners-up who will each win a copy of the 14th edition of Lonely Planet’s India book (in physical, not electronic, form) (“Runner-up Prizes”). The approximate retail value of the Runner-up Prizes is £209.90.
Competition Period
The competition will commence at 00:01 GMT on 15 February 2012 and close at 23:59 GMT on 15 March 2012 (the "Competition Period").
Entries
To enter the competition the entrant must answer the question above and submit their answer, along with their name and email address, to us by completing the form above within the Competition Period. All entries are deemed to be entered into the competition on the day of receipt by The Book Depository. Send queries to: contactus@bookdepository.co.uk. In the event of any dispute, all submitted electronic entries would be deemed to have been submitted by the owner of the e-mail account from which they were sent. All entries, and materials submitted to The Book Depository in connection with the competition (collectively, "Entry Materials"), along with all associated copyright and other proprietary rights, become the property of The Book Depository upon submission, and Entry Materials will not be returned to any entrant. Entrants agree to take any further action (including, without limitation, execution of affidavits and other documents) reasonably requested by The Book Depository to effect, perfect, or confirm The Book Depository's ownership in the Entry Materials and any associated proprietary rights.
Duplicate entries, copies and other mechanical reproduction of entries are not permitted. Proof of electronic submission will not be accepted as proof of receipt. The Book Depository may immediately terminate any account that it determines, in its sole discretion is transmitting or is otherwise connected with any "spam" or other unsolicited bulk e-mail. Incomplete entries will not be accepted. Entries that are completed or entered by means not in compliance with these rules will be disqualified and the entrant will not be eligible for future participation in competitions at The Book Depository.
The Book Depository, Lonely Planet and Intrepid will not be responsible or liable for: (a) any failure to receive entries due to transmission failures and other conditions beyond its reasonable control; (b) any late, lost, misrouted, garbled or distorted or damaged transmissions or entries; (c) telephone, electronic, hardware, software, network, Internet or other computer or communications related malfunctions or failures; (d) any contest disruptions, injuries, losses or damages caused by events beyond the control of The Book Depository; or (e) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the competition.

Winner Selection
The winners will be chosen in accordance with the competition instructions and the exercise of their residual discretion by a panel of judges, at least one of whom will be independent of TBD, Lonely Planet and Intrepid. The Prize will be awarded to the entry that the judges consider to be the best. There will be ten runners-up each of whom will receive a Runner-up Prize. The identity of all of the judges may be requested by sending an email to contactus@bookdepository.co.uk.
The winner of the Prize and the Runner-up Prizes will be notified by e-mail within five days of being selected. The winner of the Prize will be asked to confirm their identity and compliance with the Official Rules. By entering the competition you consent to The Book Depository passing on your details to Lonely Planet and Intrepid for the purpose of contacting you directly in the event you're a winner and acknowledge that your personal data might be transferred outside of the European Union. Both Lonely Planet and Intrepid take the privacy and security of personal information seriously. The Prize winner and the Runner-up Prize winners will have 5 (five) days from notification to respond to The Book Depository. If a selected winner or substitute winner is unreachable or ineligible, or fails to claim the prize within two weeks of the original notification of his/her success, the winner or substitute winner will forfeit his or her prize and it will be awarded to the next best entry. Prizes are not transferable, and no substitutions (including cash) will be given. The Prize cannot be used in conjunction with any other discounts or special offers. Lonely Planet and Intrepid will do their best to provide the Prize and the Runner-up Prize as described. However, they may substitute a prize for one of equal or greater value in their discretion. Any unclaimed or forfeited prizes remain the property of Intrepid and Lonely Planet as applicable. This process is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Non-winners will not be notified.

General Release

Itinerary for the Prize (Classic Rajasthan Trip provided by Intrepid)
Days 1-2 Delhi - Visit the wonderful walled city of Old Delhi and see one of its most impressive buildings, the Jama Masjid. Join the crowds to explore the bazaars.
Day 3 Agra - Travel by train to the Mughal city of Agra. Visit the iconic Taj Mahal.
Day 4 Rural Heritage Stay - Journey to rural Rajasthan to stay at a royal family residence. Explore the village, meet villagers and chat with traditional craftspeople for a unique insight into local life.
Days 5-6 Jaipur - Visit the Amber Fort en route to Jaipur, Rajasthan's 'Pink City'. See a Bollywood film.
Day 7 Ranthambhore National Park - Safari into the heart of the Indian bush to discover lakes and ruined palaces.
Day 8 Bundi - Journey through rural Rajasthan to Bundi. Admire stunning murals at the palace that presides over the town's Brahmin-blue rooftops
Days 9-10 Rural Heritage Stay - Experience the best of both worlds in Bijaipur. Camp lakeside under the stars, then spend the next night in the luxurious Castle Bijaipur.
Days 11-12 Udaipur - Visit City Palace, one of the largest royal palaces in India.
Days 13-14 Pushkar -With India's only Brahma temple and a holy lake, Pushkar is the place to rub shoulders with pilgrims and sadhus (holy men). For a change of pace, take a camel ride into the desert and witness a magical sunset among the dunes.

Of all the countries in the world I have been to - India is the place I remember the most. It was the most challenging place, the most dirty, smelly, noisy and confronting. But also the most hauntingly beautiful, with the most colourful people and costumes, the most fantastic temples, palaces and forts, the astonishing wildlife, the history and the grandeur. From the sunrising blush on the snowy slopes of the Kulu Valley to the fluro bright pyramids of spices in a market, the haunting melody of the Adhan heard in the pre-dawn dark or the cough of a tiger heard from the safety of an elephants back; the sweet reek of rotting marigolds thrown on the temple floor or the hot spicy aroma of freshly frying roadside snacks . From the heat and dust to the Himalayan Snows, from the blaring radios and incessant tooting horns to the utter silence of the Thar Desert night. India has it all, ruined cities, exquisite Havelis, colourful markets, artworks, friendly people, fabulous scenery and delicious food. Yes, more Death but so much life, more ugliness too but so much astonishing beauty - I hated parts of it but always loved it - Enthralling, Unforgettable India!

If I win, I will take a friend and we represent two different cultures and different generations. We will return home with vastly different images and perceptions. She will enjoy sharing this exhilerating experience with her family and friends. I, too, want to share this new experience with my family and friends. This competition has made me think about my two holidays to India, and it's all come flooding back. I got engaged in Rajasthan 13 years ago and this has been a wonderful reminder of the most amazing, as well as the oft-forgotten, bits of that trip. Life is so mundane in the UK in comparison!

What a superb prize I am a volunteer guide at a nation trust property. Occasionally I get to be the room guide in the Clive of India museum and get to tell visiters about the marvelous artifacts within the museum. it would be a unforgetable dream come true to go and learn more about India. Travelled in India in 1972 and celebrated 1st anniversary in Amritsar. Vowed to go back for our 50th anniversary, that's another 9 years away and hope we will still be around to make the trip. This holiday would be awesome to revisit and see the changes.

have been to india before. still ranks as my favourite holiday and country i have ever been too. went with my fella and my daughter when she was 4 and it still is her favourite holiday she has ever been on, (she is now 20 and has been many places). My man has been all over India, 3 times, but we were in Mumbai, Diu, Rajastan and Utter Pradesh. Would be the trip of our lives to revisit his old haunts and a dream for me to see other parts. The Indians are by far the most welcoming and energetic people. I would be honoured to be in their company in their country again. I hope we win, but whoever does relish every moment, the moments spent in India will be forever imprinted on your heart and soul. xxx

My daughter is presently in India having travelled around for 2 months and attended a conference for Global Studio as part of her Architecture degree. I have been following her journey, making train,bus and accommodation bookings for her. I know more about india than ever and have been fascinated with the vastly different terrain, people, and life. Now that she has accomplished this endeavour I long to do it myself. Have travelled quite extensively in Africa but thought I didn't have the courage for India. I'm convinced I could do it now.

A number of years back, I went to India - spent all my time in andra padresh, working on a volunteer project. i completely fell in love with the country, I wanted to stay there forever. I was 22 at the time and although I had travelled to many countries across the planet before and since, India had the deepest impact on my life. My husband and I travel a lot, but he has never been to India, I talk about it so often and would love to take him there and experience the country together.
