Full description for Warm-season (C4) Grasses

  • Moser (U. of Nebraska-Lincoln), former president of the American Society of Agronomy, introduces this ASA volume covering the warm-season (C 4) grasses as the companion in this monograph series to Cool Season Forage Grasses , v.34. International contributors review the beneficial roles of C 4 grasses as a major livestock forage; grain crop (e.g., maize, sorghum, millet); turfgrass; and conservation tool, as well as their spread as invasive weeds. The first chapter introduces warm-season grasses as having a unique photosynthetic system based on C 4, hence that designation. The overview also treats the origin, taxonomy, genetic, and other cultivation and ecological aspects of these grasses. Appended tables list the common and scientific names of grasses referenced in this volume. Annotation ©2005 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
