Product description

A guide to walking and trekking in Bulgaria, Europe - in the Pirin, Rila and Central Balkan national parks. 12 two to three-day routes are described including ascents of Musala and Vihren, Bulgaria's highest peaks, with comprehensive information about the rich and rare wildlife and plant life to be found. For walkers and naturalists, Bulgaria is an unexpected paradise, boasting an amazing variety of landscapes and an outstandingly rich biodiversity. Much of the country is dominated by mountains and Bulgaria's three wildest and most majestic mountain regions are today protected within these three national parks. As well as a vital refuge for rare wildlife, these parks also offer some of the finest mountain walking in Bulgaria. The routes described in this book thread their way through these parks, taking in ancient forests, shimmering glacial lakes, panoramic ridges and high peaks. All the routes have been specifically selected to provide the best chance of encountering the rarest plants and animals. This guide will prove invaluable to the growing number of naturalists venturing on foot into the remotest parts of Bulgaria's highest mountains.
