Nature vs Nurture
Our Book Club reads a lot of books, but this one had us talking until the wee hours of the morning! It is a page-turner of a story and beautifully written, with some serious surprises that take your breath away. I think this is one of the all-time top reads, but lots of mothers of young children may not think so...In fact, several returned the book to me because they couldn't deal with the issues in it. Kevin is a VERY naughty boy!
Reading Lionel Shriver's novel will certainly shake you up. The voice of the novel is Kevin's mother- a style that takes some getting used too - but, without giving the game away, it is vital to the storyline. It is both darkly disturbing and almost impossible to put down. This journey into the minds of mother and son reaches a climax that few will see coming. In the process your emotions will be savaged in ways few novels can achieve. It is clever. It is shocking. It is a study of hate and the nature of love.
