Reviews for Vegan with a Vengeance
Amazingly easy recipes!
Bought this book as my first vegan cookbook; have been vego for over 10 years. Every recipe I have tried from this book has been easy and turned out great, most of the time I have all the ingredients on hand (If I don't it is only a matter of getting one or two ingredients). Being in Australia, a tiny selection of ingredients aren't readily available (like liquid smoke?). I also find the recipes as a good guide to improvise - I use the lemon and poppyseed muffin recipe (minus the lemon and poppyseed) as a base for a number of delicious muffin recipes! This book is also mostly really easy to substitute gluten free ingredients. I have become a big fan of Isa - her recipes and writing style is fantastic! I have since bought more of her books and use her website frequently. Only negative is that there are no pictures! by Jess
Only good if you have the time
I am a busy student trying to be as close to vegan as I can.
Like so many cookbooks out there, I get so tired of seeing a whole page of ingredients and methods, it make me tired looking at it! At first I thought this book would be different, turns out its just the same. I really don't have the time or kitchen to treat my tofu for 1/2 on each side before marinating it, or have groundnut oil floating around.
So I am sure that this book is great for other people out there, but for me as a student with a part time job trying to fit in a social life its just to time and money consuming for me. by Daniel GriceThe best vegan cookbook I have!
I love this book! Everybody loves the **** seitan (page 158) including my omni-family! All recipes I've tried are delicious, I really recomend it :) by Irene
under reviewA mixed bag
This book has much in its favour - tasty, different recipes, witty musings and excellent explanations. However after making at least 30 of the recipes the downsides according to myself are: not enough pictures, quite a few really strange and unheard of/difficult to obtain ingredients (at least in Australia) and the time factor. Yep its different and gave me new slant to veganism but its pretty hard work and the time poor would be better off looking elsewhere. Me? I am a fan overall but just a few thoughts... by Kate Simone Gersbach

5 Stars - A great book to start your Vegan journey
This book is not one of the first vegan books I bought but I wish it was! It is very very good. The recipes aren't overly complicated and all the recipes are tasty! I always resort to it when I want something easy and tasty. by Emma Szysz
under review Great book
I bought this book a long time ago and didn't really do anything with it. Now recently I again gave vegetarianism another go and as I'm lactose-intolerant I might as well use a vegan cookbook... I must say I'm really impressed with this book, the recipes are great, the food tastes very good. The style of writing is funny, it's not a boring book about ethics, it just gives you plenty of tasty recipes. And no salads. I hate it when I buy a veg magazine or book and it's full of salads, as they really don't fill me up after a day's hard work.
Only thing is that sometimes it says the recipe's enough for six to eight people and for me and my boyfriend it's only two to three portions... So I'm not sure if we eat that much or if the author just doesn't eat a lot (or prepares several dishes at a time maybe...). I know I have a healthy appetite, but I don't think I eat that much.
Oh and pictures would have been nice. Although not essential in this case, as the descriptions are detailed and clear. by Alicia Hobbelunder reviewLove this book!
Awesome awesome recipes. None of those boring ones you see in a lot of mass-produced veggie books. I would recommend it to all my vegan/vegie friend. by a Book Depository customer
