The first half-century of existence of the Czech Institute of Egyptology is described in this volume. The Institute started in Nubia, taking part in the rescue expeditions of the UNESCO campaign to save the monuments endangered by the rising waters of the Aswan dam. However, it was the site of Abusir, in the heart of the Memphis pyramid fields, which became almost synonymous with the Czech Institute of Egyptology. The excavation works in Abusir cover a wide range of archaeological treasures, from the royal pyramid necropolis, over the tombs of the 3rd millennium nobles to the 1st millennium shaft tombs. All this is presented in this lavish volume full of detailed photographic documentation. This volume if far more extensive than an updating of the book with the same title published on the 40th anniversary.

If you can get hold of a copy of this excellent book, then do so; you will not regret it.' -- Robert Patridge Ancient Egypt Magazine 2008 A half century of excavation in Egypt by the Czech Institute of Egyptology at Charles University in Prague is marvelously commemorated in this lavish volume, and the color photography of the extensive sites and objects are a delight to peruse. The text is also an informative and easy,if detailed,read.[...]Would that every foreign archaeological mission working in Egypt has the will and means to produce such a thorough and attractive documentation of its work!' -- D.C. Forbes KMT Winter 2008 This glossy production goes far to highlight the munificence of organisations such as the Czech Institute of Egyptology in working tirelessly to promote the understanding of Egypts rich and varied history.' -- Caroline Hubschmann Eras 11 November 2009
