Reviews for Touch
Touch by Jus Accardo
This book turned out completely different than I expected and I loved it!
Dez in on her way home from a party when a guy literally lands at her feet. He asks Dez for her shoes and she gives them to him, not because she's afraid of him, but because of the fear she sees in his eyes. Dez covers for the boy and sends the two guys who are chasing him in the opposite direction. Always looking for ways to annoy her dad, she invites the boy, whose name is Kale, back to her house. He tells Dez that he has escaped from Denazen, a company that kidnaps kids with special powers, "sixes", and uses them for their own use. Kale is used for murder. His touch can kill.
Dez thought Denazen was a law firm her dad worked at. It turns out she didn't know her dad at all. Suddenly, she finds herself on the run with Kale. And the person she's running from is her dad.
Kale was great, a really likeable character. But with him having to learn some of the aspects of human behaviour, he reminded me of Data from Star Trek and I just constantly imagined him as kind of robotic. This didn't do much for my image of how swoonworthy he should be.
Dez was a fantastic heroine. She was tough and brave and not afraid to throw a dig if someone deserved it. But she was also sensitive and caring to the people she loved and cared about.
I really didn't get Alex. He supposedly does what he does because he is in love with Dez and wants her for himself, but a decent person wouldn't do the things he does to someone they love. Yet he seemed like a decent enough guy most of the time. I am hoping we see more of him in the next book so I can try to figure him out.
The idea of the sixes was interesting and imaginative. There were so many different types of special powers the sixes had. Like turning into a panda? Weird but it worked.
Jus's writing style just flows and she kept me intrigued throughout the book with action, suspense and romance. I didn't want to stop reading. There were a lot of characters in this book but they were all memorable and enhancing to the story.
I did feel there was one big question left unanswered. I don't want to give anything away so I will just say it involved Dez and Kale. I'm hoping this question will be answered in the next instalment in the series.
I really like this cover. The guy on the front is really HOT! I would have liked to be able to imagine him as my Kale but Data stepped in in his place lol.
"As long as I know this" - he lifted our joined hands - "is mine to hold, I'll wait for you forever." by Suzanne FinneganGreat read
For this review I just have to start off by talking about Dez (the protagonist). She was brilliant. I really liked how flawed she was, how she always wanted to get on her father's last nerve and how realistic she was too. Dez did stupid things when she could have handled a situation a whole lot better. Instead of getting annoyed by this though, I enjoyed it. It added to her character and made her relatable in different ways.
Of course Kale was great too. He was such fun to read about at times - there was plenty of humour with him and a bucket load of cuteness with a capital C!
As for the plot I did like the story line. A company that had Kale working for him to the point of slavery and torture because he's a 'Six'. It was great to read and it meant for some cool action at points.
What I liked about it most though, was the Sixes. I just loved the whole idea of their secrecy and variety of gifts. I was really excited when it came to reading about a load of Sixes coming together - it was a great chance for the author's imagination to run wild.
Whilst the characters were really great, I did think that they could have been developed a bit more along with their powers (if they had any) just to give them a bit more depth.
I really do recommend this read! It was quick, fun (for the most part - it did have its serious moments) and an all-round good read. Personally, I'm looking forward to more from Jus! by Maryam HThrilling Ride
First Thought: Thrilling ride!
There are SO many different things that are running around in my head, I think that is probably the reason why it's taken me so long to put this review down on paper....well you know what I mean.
Dez is one of my favorite female leads I've read about all year. This is possibly because she reminds me slightly of myself, just with her outspoken mouth & go-get-em attitude.
I mean this girl will go to any means to save those who she loves! Her adrenaline junkie ways seem to get under her dads skin, so I L-O-V-E-D when she comes home with some random dude. (Plus it doesn't hurt that the random dude is HAWT good looking)
During this book I couldn't help but think..."ya know, this sounds slightly familiar". Then I it hits me, the Ghostwalker Series by Christine Feehan! Touch totally reminds me of it, but in a completely good way, not in a bad-ripped-off-way.
Jus was able to take this idea and spin in into something beyond where I thought it could go. Breaking her characters down, then building them back up to become stronger, tougher and far wiser then before was amazing.
Along the ride Dez is bound and determined to free a specific prisoner that is being held captive in her father's work. And I mean this girl will go to extreme means to get "them" out!
Even if that means morphing into a completely unattractive older woman with made fashion sense. There's no stopping this girl :)
Watching the plot develop, thicken, then finally come to a head was probably the best part of this whole read. I mean, you know it's going to go somewhere big, but this was HUGE! Discovering you're something special, but realizing it could go in 20 different directions is another.
Oh, and the chemistry! SH-MO-KIN-G!
Kale, Kale, Kale.....I mean look at that cover & try to tell me he's not yum-tastic with a side of deliciousness???
Sparks file between these two within seconds, so when Kale discovers he can touch Dez, it turns his world upside down, inside out & starts walking backwards! Suddenly what seemed to be impossible is 100% real. It's truly heart warming to watch him actually learn and become apart of the world, instead of just being another Denazen object that inhabits it.
(He's just SO adorable)
All in all this book was pretty fantastic! Jus' imagination flies at you & comes to life from page one. Make sure you pick this book up, download, whatever you need to do so that you can devour it ASAP! by Jessica HansenReview of Touch by Jus Accardo
I'm not going to lie...I totally picked this book for the cover. Have any of you out there ever watched the television series Roswell? Well if you have you might have noticed the same thing I did...
That's right...Max! (Played by Jason Behr.) I seriously believe that if a movie deal is made for this book that Jason Behr should play Kale. I would definitely pay to see that! So yeah...there's my confession...laugh at me if you will.
Now on to the review!
This book was absolutely amazing! If it wasn't for Divergent already stealing that place in my heart, I think Touch would be my top read of 2011. But it still has the much honoured place of runner-up (as far as I am concerned).
The story kind of reminded me up a mash-up between X-Men and Heroes (a television series I adore). In fact...if you know the series at all then you might understand my next comment. There is a neat character in Touch that seriously reminds me of Sylar from Heroes. If you have watched the series, and have read the book, tell me if you thought the same thing.
This book had some fabulous characters, both main and supporting. I cared about almost each and every one of them. I didn't want anything bad to happen to any of them (except those one or two really nasty ones of course). I fell in love with Kale instantaneously. His naivety and tenderness shine through despite everything he has been trained to believe and do. This provides the appropriate direct opposite to the female lead, Dez, who is a fiery young woman hell-bent on making her father's life a living Hell as much as possible. At first Dez annoyed me a bit with her out-of-control attitude and constant use of foul language. Over time I discovered the reasons behind her actions and was able to grow and mature along with here throughout each and every page, and it was a journey well worth taking. (And I'd do it again in a heartbeat.)
I also appreciate that the authour didn't feel it necessary to hold us hostage with a nasty cliffhanger to get us to read the next book in the series. To tell you the truth, I give way more credit to the authors who can make me want to read the next book(s) in their series without leaving me in a gut-wrenching "Oh my God what next!" kind of spot. So kudos to Jus Accardo. She is one of the few who have gotten this right! by Gwenyth Love5 STARS
As an opener I'd like to say that 'Touch' by Jus Accardo is for the older (mature) young adults. There are at least 3 vivid steamy scenes especially for those whose imagination easily gets away from them =) and the 'Sh*t' word is also thrown here and there.
It took me awhile in the beginning to get into the book because the style is much different than what I'm use to reading. Don't expect 'TOUCH' to be sugar coated and gum drops. This is not to say that I didn't like it because I DEFINITELY did! It was AWESOME! I enjoyed it!
The characters all have strong personas and you can easily connect with each one. Each character will have you on a up and down emotional spiral with their own individual life story. Deznee is so not your usual typical heroine/protagonist. She is one kick-butt, take no crap, sarcastic, and adrenaline junky kind of girl! In the beginning I felt like she was taking things a little too over board with the whole "what can I do to piss-off dad". But in the end I empathized for her and for the reasons she has for her madness. Kale is the most adorable, innocent, but at the same time lethal kind of guy. He puts a whole new twist to devotion/possessiveness and just makes it sexy and appealing.
The ending was like a breathe of fresh air because it didn't leave me hanging or disappointed, but the last paragraph did leave me a bit confused. Hopefully 'TOXIC' Book #2 will clear that up for me.
Jus Accardo did an excellent job in mixing gut wrenching suspense, romance, and action pack scenarios into 'TOUCH' that I'm dying to read what happens next. A DEFINITE MUS READ!
Thank you Entangled Publishing for TOUCH!! by SpadesHighEpic Paranormal YA!
This book epitomizes "epic-ness at its pinnacle"; It is an electrifying, stunning debut.
I don't know what to say about this book, cause frankly, it was perfect, in every sense of that word. The suspenseful, action-packed, complicated but wholesome plot to the professional characterization, they were all wonderfully delivered. The thrill of the chase, hide-and-seek and having to second-guessing everyone's motives, the pain and heartache the characters felt and went thru permeated out of the pages and boy, was it nice to soak up all that lovely Paranormal YA goodness.
The first thing that I feel obligated to highlight, is the complexity and entirety of the plot. It was so detailed, so well-thought of and planned..it was just amazing, really. All that, and it never got confusing. Mind you, "confusing" and "complicated" are 2 very separate entities. It actually made it all the more believable.
Initially, I wasn't very taken by the whole adrenaline-junkie, all punk-girl attitude that was Dez , but she became mature and she knew how to take matters into her own hands. I liked that about her. Her inner strength and resilience, add to that a funky and funny personality, it all just made her such a likable character.
This series is a very refreshing take on the whole YA Paranormal front, a very impressive debut. A nice little blend between the cool-ness of Xmen and his buddies, a little mix with the big, evil organization of the MINDER series by Kate Kaynak (click to see my review), and add in the fray Dan Brown's awesome mystery skills and you have TOUCH. This book, in its own right, is in a league all on its own. by CYPDown-right sexy, funny, fast-paced, exciting and touching.
Down-right sexy, funny, fast-paced, exciting and touching.
Jus Accardo have created an effective characters and an amazing story, I was so absorbed by this book that made it hard to put down. The author's writing and imagination was very impressive.
Our heroin- a young girl named Deznee who's always game for pissing her Dad off whenever she can, bold and reckless, lively and has an attitude that I really like about her. And Kale, he's a cute mysterious young guy who have never seen the outside world his whole life until the day he escaped and ran into Deznee And oh boy did they click together very well. I loved Kale so much, his innocence, his indomitable personality really intrigued me.
The romance scenes were so sensational and intense, and I mean really really intense. Reading Deznee's mind was so wonderful, it was so realistic, the confused feelings towards her "first-love" e x-boyfriend and towards this new strange guy, her relationship with his father, and being a rebellious teenager. And the best part was the love triangle was executed so good, just like what Ive wanted.
The plot was moving; I felt the mixed feeling of excitement and nervousness of the events. It's just awesome that I was deeply engrossed with this book. I am dying to read the second installment!
The Darkest Powers by Kelley Armstrong and Damage by Anya Parrish will surely enjoy this book. Atleast, that's what I did. Recommended for paranormal romance fantasy lovers.

I absolutely loved TOUCH. I was captivated from the very first page and did not want to stop until I had devoured every last word. It was full of action and adventure and I never knew what crazy twist was going to be revealed next. Deznee and Kale's slowly building relationship was so sweet and refreshing. I adored them separately and I LOVED them together. Kale's innocence in all the small things in their relationship made it the most adorable thing I had ever read! Deznee is a strong, independent, and smart-ass character, that I adored! by Reading Angel Amazing!
The first time I heard about Touch was actually a post I came across about the changes in the cover. Of course, after seeing the new cover, I thought with a hot guy like that gracing the front, how could I not want to read what's inside?! And after reading the summary I really knew I had to! Now, I received my e-arc copy in my e-mail after midnight. I stuck it on my kindle, sat in my chair and didn't get up until the wee hours of the morning. And by wee I mean I stayed up to 5 or 6 in the morning. I literally could not put this down!
From the first part of the book I found Dez's attitude and actions hard to swallow. She's a total daredevil. I'm exactly the opposite. I'm obsessed with safety and I'm the typical helicopter Mother who loves to hover. But very quickly into the book Dez grew on me and I became hooked on her story. And of course Kale's story. I rarely find the male love interests in stories endearing - normally I like them for their confidence or because their sexiness oozes through the pages and while I'm not saying Kale does not possess these qualities; I can definitely say his endearing personality definitely played a huge role in my love for his character.
The action in this never slowed down - the pace kept up throughout reading. And I was caught off guard and surprised quite a few times. The love story is very sweet and had some really hot scenes (probably better suited for mid to older teens). But one of the best parts of the book was the setting: I love settings where characters have superpowers and corporations are out to get them and this fit that love of mine very well.
RECOMMENDED TO:
As I said above, if you like an action packed novel full of characters with superpowers trying to fight an evil organization and a good love story thrown in to boot: you'll love this just as much as I did. And even if that type of story makes your eyebrows raise with a little skepticism: I'd still recommend it!
FAVOURITE QUOTE:
Kale looked from me to Alex, face darkening. At his sides, fingers twitched. "You hurt her. She told me. Why do you care if she lets me kiss her? She holds my hand now, not yours!"
I went back and saw that I had highlighted this! I loved this part! It still makes me giggle! by Elizabeth Kurlykova
