Arnold Schwarzenegger, born in Thal, Austria in 1947, was Governer of California from 2003-2011. Before that, he had a long career starring in such films as the Terminator series, Stay Hungry, for which he won a Golden Globe,Twins, Predator, and Junior. His first book Arnold: The Education of a Bodybuilder was a bestseller when publisher in 1977 and has never been out of print since. The New Modern Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding has sold more than half a million copies in the past decade. Total Recall is his first public reflection on his term as Governor during what was perhaps California's most tumultous decade.

Total Recall is the most surprising book I have ever read. I got it on a whim before leaving on a trip around Australia and I was immediately amazed at how interesting, entertaining and motivational the book was.
I grew up through the 80s and 90s so movies by Arnie, Stallone, Norris, Van Damme etc were everywhere; Terminator 2 was a movie that blew everybody's socks off because special effects of that calibre were so new to the big screen. Outside of his movies I was aware Schwarzenegger had achieved a lot through his body building years earlier and had won a few titles and then on the other side of his movie career went on to become California's Governor.
What I didn't realise was how motivated and driven Schwarzenegger was and this comes out clearly through the book. He aimed high, set annual goals, and worked to make those goals happen - and you can't help but be impressed and motivated by it. This outlook on life took him from a small Austrian village to body building competitions around the world to becoming a Hollywood icon, marrying into the Kennedy family, mixing with Presidents, leading and promoting government programs around the US and eventually becoming the Governator.
Being taken on those journeys and hearing about the people, the movies, the programs and the races was very interesting. Five stars.
