The enduring novel by one of our greatest storytellers. George Smiley, who is a troubled man of infinite compassion, is also a single-mindedly ruthless adversary as a spy. The scene which he enters is a Cold War landscape of moles and lamplighters, scalp-hunters and pavement artists, where men are turned, burned or bought for stock. Smiley's mission is to catch a Moscow Centre mole burrowed thirty years deep into the Circus itself.

John le Carre was born in 1931. His third novel, THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD, secured him a wide reputation which was consolidated by the acclaim for his trilogy TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY, THE HONOURABLE SCHOOLBOY and SMILEY'S PEOPLE. I loved this book from the moment I read the first few words - I will not spoil the story by relating the plot to you but simply to say that John Le Carre is a master with words and this is a classic novel of spy wisdom and daring.
I do not want to give any of the plot away - how you are told about the story is important - as key pieces of information are revealed. By the end of the story, it becomes very fast-paced, and the espionage becomes clear.
Having read other John Le Carre books I though I knew what to expect but again I was suprised and loved it when the information started fitting together - like puzzle pieces.
I would recommend this book if you are looking to escape into another world - however temporary it might be, it quickly becomes an unputtodownable book.
