This Girl is Will's version of his love affair with Lake from the first moment he saw her up to their honeymoon. I had not read the thwo previous books about Lake and Will before reading this book, I will definitely read them now. I loved this story, it was just sweet sweet love tinged with the agony of separation. The characters are so endearing and really well defined. I am so glad I was given this book to review. I loved This Girl.

A fantastic read and excellent closure for the Slammed Series.
I have read a few "companion" novels, and this is by far the best one yet. Colleen Hoovers writing is spectacular. For a familiar story to be re-told from the lead male characters perspective this was executed brilliantly. I really like the way that Will is telling his side of the story to Lake whilst on their honeymoon. It opens up a whole new perspective on the situations they found themselves in during Slammed and Point of Retreat.
It is impossible to not love the characters in this book. Will and Layken are an adorable couple and the love they share is breathtaking. The heartbreak they endure in their short lives and how they pull through only serves to make them more appealing to the reader.
I have absolutely nothing to negatively criticise about this book. Simply put...I LOVED IT!
If you haven't read Slammed or Point of Retreat then I highly recommend that you do. Those are brilliant as well, and you will be able to appreciate and enjoy This Girl.

This is the third book in the 'Slammed' series, and kicks off with Will and Lake on their honeymoon.
This story is told from Will's point of view, and basically involves Lake asking Will to tell her his version of their story. The story is mostly told in the form of flashbacks, some scenes of which weren't in the original 2 books.
I'm torn over this book, I disliked the flashback-style in which it was written, but there were some really sweet moments too.
Let's just start by saying that I haven't read the first two books in this series, but I was interested in reading this one because other people said it was good, and I wanted to join in the buddy read!
Most of this book is told in flashbacks though, kinda like in TV programs where they do clips from previous shows and call it a new episode. For me, this kind of thing is a bit of a 'filler' episode, something that gets you from one show to the next without progressing much. I'm definitely reminded of the TV show 'friends', who seemed to have these sort of flashback shows quite a bit. The thing is with these sort of things, if the flashbacks are something I haven't seen before, then they can be enjoyable, if they're rehashing something I've already seen, then I feel a bit cheated.
That being said, I haven't read the first 2 books, so nothing was rehashed as such for me, but still the constant jumping backward was slightly irritating! I did find some of the flashbacks sweet and enjoyable, but I have a feeling that if I had read the first 2 books, and had already been through these scenes once before, this would have gotten old really quick.
Anyway, I did think that Lake and Will made a cute couple, even though the whole 'I accidentally snogged my teacher' thing has been done before. There were some really sweet moments between the pair, and they seemed to genuinely care for one another, and I liked the romance between them. I did think the whole 'yes we'll wait a year before we have sex' thing was a little ridiculous, and I have a feeling that if I had been reading through two whole books of this teasing and messing about I would have gotten a bit annoyed. And who gets married at 19 anyway?
The poetry aspect of the story was alright, but I can't say that I really liked it. A couple of the poems were alright, but they weren't anything amazing. Having read this book I might still read 'Slammed', but I get the impression that 'Point of Retreat' would really annoy me!
Overall; I did enjoy this book, but it did feel like a rehash of the first two books, and I haven't even read the first two books! If you really love this series, then go for it, but otherwise I don't think I'd bother, you're basically paying for something that you have already read!
6.5 out of 10.
