Reviews for Tempest
Tempest by Julie Cross blew me away!
5/5 STARS!
Tempest by Julie Cross blew me away! Tempest is going to make one hell of a movie!
Time Travel, murder, mystery, romance, death, non-stop action... Need I say more?
I read this book altogether in under eight hours. I cried, I laughed, I screamed, and when I turned to the last page and realized I was finished I was devastated. How did a 350 page book vanish so quickly? Because it was absolutely, mind-blowingly FANTASTIC! This book was exactly what I needed. It's been a long time since I devoured a book so completely. It had hardcore action, mystery up to my throat, romance coming our of my ears, tragedy and sadness pouring out of my heart, and a sense of desperation soaking every single page. The writing was swift and precise, leaving nothing out. The plot was thick, encompassing, and brilliantly executed. The characters were so real I had to remind myself once I finished reading that they weren't. The romance between Holly and Jackson, no matter which decade they were in, whether he was trying to get her to love him again, or to keep her after she did, was genuine, sweet, and real.
The time traveling, which is what most people are going to want to read about, was one of the coolest parts. Jackson's inability to understand something that controlled his life intruded me, and the longer you read the more mysteries you solved, and it just kept adding to the plot until I didn't know where the past ended, the present continued, and where the future started. I don't have one bad thing to say about this book, other than the wait for the next one is going to kill me. I wish I could jump back 8 hours and start this book all over again...
Jackson's relationship with his sister however was the icing on the cake. For once we have a book that didn't focus entirely on a YA relationship. In fact the relationship was just one of the many facets of this book. Jackson's twin sister broke my heart. I lost my brother too, so any book that can tap into those emotions hits me hard like a fist. I cried so many times I just stopped worrying about the tears on the pages. That scene in the hospital killed me, but it made me fall in love with every part of Jackson there was. I felt what he felt, saw what he saw, and no matter how much I tried I couldn't get this book out of my mind.
The story itself was great. It was like we were given a big incomplete puzzle, and we had to help Jackson put the pieces together, but at the same time we already knew that the picture we were putting together wasn't going to be pretty, but we had to put it together anyway. We had to know the truth, and I loved Julie Cross for that! She involved the reader so tremendously, creating a very visual action packed novel, with romance, time travel, and everything you could think of!
Finally, a Young-Adult masterpiece that doesn't involve vampires, werewolves, or anything paranormal other than time traveling!!! It has something for everyone, and you'll be dying for the next book as much as I am!
I will do more than recommend this book. I'm going to demand you buy it, because you won't be disappointed! by Reading For Fun- Top review

What happens when you wrap YA, Sci-Fi, a little romance and a little mystery into one book? You get this 100%, simply amazing novel by Julie Cross, and it's called, Tempest!
This book was simply amazing! I loved the whole time traveling aspect. I will admit, at first it was a bit confusing, but that was only for the first few paragraphs, after that it was easy to get pulled right into this book and go on a wild ride with Jackson through time.
This isn't your everyday, run of the mill, time travel stories. Jackson Meyer is a nineteen year old "jumper" that can jump into the past, usually only a few hours into the past, not decades, and he can't jump forward either. But when something happens to his girlfriend, Holly, and himself that he wasn't prepared for, he is thrust into the past by two years with no way to return to his present time.
The writer takes you on a ride with Jackson as he starts to discover things about himself, his past and the people that he thought he knew. And he starts to learn that people aren't always as they seem.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys YA Sci-Fi, suspense and a little mystery.

"...'Tempest' started out a little slow for me, but that is not to say it was necessarily boring. Cross has a complex concept of time-travel that I have not encountered before, so it was probably a good thing that she takes time at the outset for Jackson and Adam to explain as much as they know themselves, so the reader can have a better understanding of how things essentially work - of course then she will go and blow your mind later when some things turn out to be rather different than expected! The last time-travel book I read was probably 'The Time Machine' by H.G. Wells, but it would have been a children's edition that I read as a kid. Other than that, I think the only literary exposure to time-travel I've had is with Hermione's time-turner in the third Harry Potter book. The rules of traveling through time are much different in Tempest, however, beyond the fact that no device is needed to make the jump..."
