Geoffrey Wentworth, the Earl of Stratford, is a war hero focused on affairs of king and country rather than affairs of the heart. Nevertheless, his mother is playing matchmaker and has invited potential brides to visit the family estate. Geoffrey resigns himself to playing host to a gaggle of husband-hunters more interested in his title than in him--until he unexpectedly meets one notable and intriguing exception. Miss Liliana Claremont has no interest in being an earl's wife, least of all Wentworth's--the son of the man she believes murdered her father. Liliana is determined to find evidence of the crime, but her behavior rouses the earl's suspicions as well as her own undeniable attraction to a man she thought was her enemy. As Geoffrey and Liliana explore their growing passion for one another, the truth behind their fathers' enmity threatens to destroy their newfound love...

Heather Snow is a historical romance author with a degree in chemistry who found she much preferred creating chemistry on the page rather than in the lab. Heather lives in the Midwest with her husband, two rambunctious boys, and one very put-upon cat. She truly hopes you find her stories have just the right chemistry. Just from reading the blurb, you know that this isn't going to be your average Regency romance. I've been meaning to read Heather Snow's books for some time, and where better to start than at the beginning! Sweet Enemy is the first in the Veiled Seduction series and is also Snow's debut novel -although you would never know by reading it!
Liliana Claremont is certainly not your average society miss. She's a brilliant chemist, and has continued her father's work in studying chemistry. But when she unearths new information about her father's murder, she will stop at nothing to find her answers. Liliana is a very likeable character, she's strong, independent and intelligent. She has a very inquisitive and scientific mind, shown throughout the book with many scientific references, which lent an authentic feel to Liliana's character.
Geoffrey is a rather refreshing and original hero. Once he begins to get to know Liliana he listens to her opinions, and treats her as an equal. He's interested in her as a genuine partner in life and appreciated her for the qualities which many frowned upon in this era. It also helped that he was handsome and honourable, determined to make changes in the country to help the poor- particularly to help the plight of soldiers left unemployed and starving after the war.
Their chemistry was immediate and wonderful! The love that grew between them didn't just stem from physical attraction though, it built as they came to understand each other's characters properly.
The mystery of Liliana's father's murder was wonderfully crafted. It blends superbly with the romance, and keeps you guessing.
As Liliana and Geoffrey's relationship grew, Liliana's guilt about keeping secrets from him also grows. I felt so bad for her but you also understand why she can't let it go. Honesty is one of the traits Geoffrey values most, so you just knew it was going to be heart breaking when the truth came out!
Heather Snow's debut novel is a fabulous read, with humour, mystery and suspense injected into it. It kept me guessing, and kept me reading far later than I should have been! I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series!

Another historical romance at its best.
Let's talk about the cover: I heard that they changed it, I actually love the first cover although I can't see Liliana's face, but the blue dress and the gold background really did it for me. I fell in love with the book, the first time I saw the cover.
From the very first page, I was hardly gripped by the story. I even checked it again if it's really a historical romance, well, oh well, the very first page of Sweet Enemy depicts someone breaking in and Liliana's been seen and caught by that person, thanks to her wits, she managed to escape.
I really like the plot of this book. Liliana attending the House Party of the Duke while her ulterior motive is to prove that the Duke's family has really something to do with her father's death. And also, I'm not really an active feminist, but it's good to think that even at that time, there are women who does not concern themselves with petticoats and gowns, instead with chemicals, formulas and theories. Like Liliana, I do believe that what men can do, women could, sometimes even better.
Heather Snow make her characters unique and at the same time very relatable. I sometimes hate myself for agreeing with Liliana, and when the time comes for the Geoffrey's (Duke) POV, I agree with him and hate Liliana for doing it.
What makes me love Sweet Enemy is that Geoffrey and Liliana's love story started with intrigue and scorching moment. It was never easy. There was suspicion, then mutual understanding, distrust..and many more.. I saw their love grow and developed in a not boring way.
Also, there are a lot of information on the book, especially with healing plants, chemical reactions and even codes. Ms. Heather Snow, put her knowledge into this book, she's a chemist..
One might never believe that this is actually Heather Snow's debut novel. I for myself, am used already to her writing style, which keeps the reader going, revealing each mystery together with the characters. Plus humor and wits...I laughed most of the times...Ã????Ã????Ã????Ã???Ã??Ã?¯Ã????Ã???Ã??Ã?Â
This is a must read not just for historical lovers, but for mystery enthusiast too... An intriguing novel with characters that are anything but ordinary, Sweet Enemy would easily carve out a space into anyone's heart. Highly Recommended!!! And would love to see more of this wonderful author!!!
