Another Triumph for Kostova
Having enjoyed Kostova's previous novel, "The Historian", I was very keen to read "The Swan Thieves" and it didn't disappoint.
Once again Kostova has weaved an intriguing story that really captures the reader's imagination. The short chapters make it easy to dip into and enjoy the book throughout the day without needing to set aside hours for reading time; great for those with a busy lifestyle who are always on the move.
Her writing style in this novel is fluid, light and full of life, perfectly reflecting the Impressionist movement, which is so central to the storyline.
Like "The Historian", the background to the story has been well researched and the true elements add depth to the fiction, making it all the more believable and gripping.
Her characters are well rounded and engaging and from the first page you are interested in their lives and what will happen to them. I liked the use of multiple storytellers as it gives the reader the chance to hear things from the point of view of different characters at different times and see how they all come together.
An excellent novel that I would recommend to anyone and everyone! by Nicola Markus
