Reviews for Starcrossed
Original take on the Greek mythology and home of the fantastic love story of Helen and Lucas. That's exactly the way history can be a lot of fun!
STARCROSSED and I didn't have the best start. I had to adjust to Angelini's writing style first. Then protagonist Helen seemed like a very static character and the things happening to her were more than strange and inexplicable.
I don't know on which page, maybe I was about 70 pages into the story, but suddenly I connected to it. I wanted to know what was about to happen to each character, see how they interact and what the Greek mythology references were about.
Helen and Lucas are equal when it comes to their status as supernatural beings. I really liked that this paranormal love is about two equal lovers. They fall in love, they both want each other and although they are equal their love is yet another one forbidden. Angelini involved pretty interesting concepts of the correlation between love and hate.
She also built great tension and I couldn't wait for Helen and Lucas to get their special moment. When it was finally there...the tension just puffed. I hoped for a more vivid display of romantic scenes and still hope for that in the sequel (I'm sure Josephine Angelini will do a fab job).
We got many characters and they felt like a huge family to me, so familiar and fun. I liked all of them so much. They all have talents that relate to ancient Gods. We also got the oracle of Delphi. Their talents fascinated me, the powers of Gods or semigods seem endless.
THE VERDICT
I give it 4,5/5 stars.
STARCROSSED is the first of many Greek mythology themed books being released right now and it was the best to start with. I'm eager to learn more about the Greeks and Lucas' and Helene's love story in the much anticipated sequel! by MissPageTurnerAction is where it's at!

Being a guy I was hesitant to read this- it seemed a little girly for my taste. however, my girlfriend badgered me into it and I was pleasantly surprised!
Obviously it was geared towards more of a female audience, however the action was what kept my attention! The interactions between the Delos boys vaguely reminded me of my own brother and our relationship (except we don't have super powers).
Overall I think it was a pretty decent book. by Ryan- Top review
Romeo and Juliet had Nothing on this 'Starcrossed' Romance Adventure!
This is a spin on the classic 'starcrossed' pair- however, with a mythological twist and high stakes. Helen Hamilton is a young woman with a tendency to hide behind herself- she can't stand the spotlight.
However, when the Delos family arrive in Nantucket, her world is turned upside down; with three crying sisters, covered in blood and willing her to seek blood for herself, she begins to worry that she's going crazy. This thought is only furthered when she attacks one of the mysterious Delos' kids, Lucas- who she feels both "...pure, heart-poisoning hatred" for while also being unable to stay away from him and the rest of his family.
However, when a chance event occurs, everything changes- the people she once thought were her enemies are suddenly the only allies against what's coming.
As this threat hangs over both Helen and the Delos' family, they begin to prepare, but things only become more complicated as they try to unravel the secrets behind Helen's birth and the growing romance she and Lucas try to hold onto.
This novel is a great debut for Angelini, between her writing skill and characters which come alive in this weave of mythology, romance, adventure and mystery, it's definitely worth a read- if not 2,4 or 7 reads like I myself have done! I can't wait for the next book in the series and recommend this to anyone who likes their mythology, specifically the Greek kind! by Brittany My Favourite of the year! A must read!!!
Starcrossed was an amazing book filled with action and romance, deceit and betrayal. Angelini does a great job with this modernized tale of Troy from greek mythology. absolutely loved it and Im sure you will too! by Julie
Starcrossed Will Leave You Breathless & Wanting More!

Starcrossed
This books is one of the best book I've read. It's really captivating! All the mythology makes the story a whole lot more interesting. So much tension is created from the description of Josephine! A must read book! This is definitely going under my favourite list!! by Venetta
Amazing Mythological Love Story!
I've been on a contemporary reading spree for the past few days and this was definitely just the book to get me back into my typical element, which I'd say is paranormal or fantasy romance. I've also realized after looking at my Good Reads read list that I've been loving nearly everything I've read lately. This was no exception though. I LOVED IT!
I can't say I've ever been a big mythology lover. I have a light interest, but the most my interest really goes is that I own Don't Know Much About Mythology: Everything You Need to Know About the Greatest Stories in Human History but Never Learned by Kenneth C. Davis and I really loved watching Hercules and Xena growing up. In fact, I loved Xena so much that my best friend and I used to "sword fight" with pieces of plywood while doing the Xena battle cry. And once I really hurt her. And I think she brings up that story way more than she should. I'M SORRY, AMY, THAT WAS LIKE 14 YEARS AGO, GET OVER IT! I also know quite a bit about the Furies, who I found terrifying in this book. Mostly because my really strange and embarrassing Mother threatens to send them on anyone who pisses her off. Oh, Mama...
Anyway, this book makes me want to run out to the library and immerse myself in mythological studies. And fly, get a demi-god for a boy toy, move to Nantucket and eat really good food.
Helen is a character I love. She's a good combination of extremely strong, vulnerable, funny and loving. She isn't afraid to put her heart out on the line and doesn't beat around the bush about her feelings. And I love how much she loves and cares for her Father. Sometimes I found her being petty, but she doesn't ignore it and keep on going, she tries to change for the better good.
I love when books I read throw drama at me that I didn't see coming at all. It packs way more of a punch! And there were quite a few punches in this! One in particular was completely heart wrenching and unexpected. And the romance! Oh boy... this book had one of the sexiest scenes I've ever read and I actually flipped back and re-read over it at least three times before moving on and they didn't even kiss on the lips, you guys.
Overall: I completely recommend this book! It has starcrossed lovers who don't even need to kiss to be sexy, an intriguing and intricate plot with lots of surprises, a kick ass heroine, a beautiful setting and you should really just run out and buy this! by Elizabeth KurlykovaLoved it! So great!
Helen is just a teenage girl wading through life trying to avoid being noticed, even though she is anything but normal! Helen seems to have incredible strength and speed and knows that she isn't like other girls. If I were to stop the review right there, you would think that this was like any other young adult "paranormal" book and quit there, thinking it is too cliche or overdone, but I would disagree! This book is fantastic, and the "side" characters are sometimes more amazing than Helen! I absolutely adore Claire, Helen's awesome "sidekick."
Starcrossed is an amazing read! I have read quite a few Greek mythology books, and this is one of the best. I absolutely LOVED the different surprises that arise along the way. Also, the "starcrossed" lovers is something that draws you in. You just can't stay away!!! The ending has left me in anticipation, and I can't wait for the sequel, Dreamless!!!!! by Nicole MiniukLoved this book!
There are two kinds of books I really like. The first is a book that I can't put down. I read it so fast because it is just that good. The second is a book that I have to put down periodically to emotionally recover before I continue. Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini is the second kind. I became so invested in these characters so quickly that it felt like reading a second or third book about them. I was attached. When they struggled, I had to put the book down and recover before I could keep reading but I had to continue.
The relationship between Helen and Lucas is dynamic and extreme. It's impossible to write about one without talking about the other and that is really what the story demonstrates. So I won't try to talk about them separately. Helen and Lucas have strong emotions between them. They are different and the same. They are both beautiful and powerful. One is skilled while one is learning but it's not always clear which is which because they change roles from time to time. It is impossible to be together and impossible to be apart and that is how I felt reading the book. I love these characters.
The story has some threads I've seen in other books, a powerful character unaware of that power and a stranger explaining things to them. It has elements of Greek Mythology in it and uses the Trojan War specifically. But this book weaves those threads together to create a unique story with twists and turns that had me messaging other bloggers to get help breathing through it! by Valerie FinkA brilliant and captivating adventure with drama, romance and action
I don't know where to start. I'm still trying to get my head around everything that happens ' which is a lot. This isn't the type of book that you just enjoy, finish and move on from ' it keeps you thinking, analysing everything that happened and anticipating how the story will continue.
I really enjoyed how Josephine Angelini took Greek mythology and turned it into a contemporary story. There is a lot to ancient literature and while I was looking forward to what it could bring, I was afraid I might get caught up in remembering all the facts instead of enjoying the story. It couldn't of been easy bringing the modern and ancient together, but it is wonderfully written and made the union seem effortless.
Helen is so sweet, shy, unnaturally strong, fast, intelligence and "turn your head" gorgeous. She hates the attention she gets and just wants to stay under everybody's radar. All you want to do is protect her, which is one of many reason why I love her best friend, Claire. They have know each other since they were babies and Claire isn't afraid to say whatever she thinks and stand up for Helen without ever being asked. Lucas has all the same attributes as Helen except he's very comfortable with who and what he is, but not in an obnoxious way.
I love all the characters and how each of them have clear personalities and important roles in the story that make them stand on there own instead of just existing for the sake of supporting the main characters.
I'll admit that while a lot of people think about the story of Helen and Paris as an epic romance, I thought they were two of the most selfish people in history. So can you explain to me why I'm hoping that despite what will happen if Helen and Lucas end up together, I'm suddenly rooting for them, damning the consequences?
This is a brilliant and captivating adventure with drama, romance and action that keeps you on edge and will leave you greedy for more. I can't believe this is Josephine Angelini's or as I now think of her after reading Starcrossed ' *Moirae's debut. Where has she been hiding! Probably on an island south of Cape Code, Massachusetts or Olympia.
