Reviews for Shatter

  • Masterful example of a psychological thriller4

Michael A. Crowe This was my second Michael Robotham book and I would have to say he rightly deserves a reputation as 'one of the best architects of the psychological thriller'.

It is clear that Robotham uses his investigative journalist background to thoroughly research his books - all apparently are based on actual cases - working with experts in the fields of criminal psychology & forensic pathology.

While he is definitely on my must-read list now, I found Shatter so tense & mentally draining that I really need to take a break from crime fiction for awhile!

The main protagonist of Shatter is a former Army interrogator who enjoys mentally torturing his victims until he hears the 'sound of their minds breaking'.

Robotham not only is very accomplished writing in the first person but seems to deliberately challenge himself as an author by creating his narrators far removed from himself.

The narrator of Shatter is a clinical psychologist suffering from the early stages of Parkinson's.

In his book 'The Night Ferry' the narrator is not only a female police officer, but is also a Sikh. I actually had to double check that a) yes, Michael is a male and b) no, is not a Sikh! by Michael A. Crowe
