Reviews for A Shadow Falls
Hypnotic Splendour
Nick Brandt's photography is stunning when seen very large on a wall. It's impact is a lasting memory. So it was with some trepidation that I bought the book. I wanted a reminder of the exhibition I saw, but I also wanted to see those images as large as possible. Would the book deliver?
"A Shadow Falls" is a large book but it is not heavy. The oversized tritone plates do indeed match my memory. The quality of the printing is first rate, but the greatest achievement with this book, in my mind, is the manner of presentation. Considerable thought has gone into the placement of each photograph, and because no two images have the same dimensions, this means every page brings no expectations, only visual splendour at the respect afforded each one. The thin black borders on each stunning image is perfect for their presentation, and there is always white space allowed on a page, even for the double-paged spreads.
This is a book worth way more than its price. I've ordered 2 more. It is not one of those coffee table adornments that get opened once then offer no more. This is a book you immerse yourself in and linger and return to. by Peter Hill
