This Concern therefore, which "fo nearly affects the common Interefl of our "Country, is particularly recommended by the So"ciety to all their Members. From thefe Extraffs it will appear, how careful this Society has always been to obviate the common Objections made againft the Charity Schools, that they only breed up Children in Idlenefs and Pride; and it muft not be omitted, that as early as the Year 1712, they particularly recommended, "That however thefe Children are difpofed of, it "will be very neceflary beforehand to teach them "that great Leflbn of true Humility, which our "Saviour has prefcribed to all that will be his Dil"ciples; left the Advantages they receive from a "pious Education, mould incline them to put too "great a Value upon themfelves; and therefore "that the Mafters be often put in mind of guard"ing the Children under their Care, as much as "poflible, againft fuch dangerous Conceits; and in "order thereunto, to inftrudl them very carefully "in the Duties of Servants, and Submillion to "Superiors.
