Beata Zatorska was raised in a remote village in rural Poland and emigrated to Australia when she was 19. She has been a family doctor for more than 20 years. Simon Target has written and directed award-winning television documentaries and directed numerous television food shows with chefs such as Curtis Stone, Rick Stein, and Donna Hay.

As someone who spends way too much time in the kitchen my tastes for cookbooks over the years have become narrower and narrower. With unfair expectations for most cookbooks, I admit as I unopened the package that was sent to me I fully expected to not want to waste the energy opening it after forming my opinion on its cover. And that's when I saw it. Exquisite photography by Simon Target captures the rose petals that hit you with a wave of nostalgia, even for me who bears no eastern european heritage. I flicked through each beautifully designed page and I read Beata's story and fell in love with the book, and have been experimenting and divulging in the 50 or so recipes. I have recommended it to three Polish friends who have also fallen in love and now gift it to their families, to remind them of their ancestry or younger years in an often over-looked country. 5 stars for an incredible cook book that I recommend to everyone, Polish or not, for some delicious and memorable meals combined with a heartwarming story!

I purchased this book on the recommendation of my mum who saw it in a local bookshop. My mothers family came to Australia from Poland in the 1960's and have kept many of their traditional recipes alive. This book has many of the foods I remember my grandmother and great-grandmother making and much, much more. It showcases the best of Polish cuisine.
The photography is simply stunning and makes me yearn for a holiday to Poland to sample the food and walk in the beautiful countryside. I like the 'weightiness' and size of the book too and the lovely slip-cover.
A beautiful coffee-table book in it's own right with authentic & practical recipes to swoon over.
