Product description

Rhodes in Ancient Times, written by Cecil Torr in 1885, was among one of the first English guides to the culture and history of Rhodes. This new edition, with additional material edited by Gerald Brisch, begins with a short introduction to the 1885 edition and to Cecil Torr himself (1857-1928). Torr's 1885 edition follows thereafter with chapters on the topography of Rhodes, public affairs, 'At Sea', 'On Shore', the gods, art, learning and legends. Whilst this is not a substitute for your average tourist guide, which undoubtedly has far more practical information for the traveller, this is an interesting read which should be squeezed into your suitcase.
