Nic Wong In this book, Mark and Grace Driscoll share their marriage lives.. They share not just what the Bible says, but also what they have experienced as a married couple, and as marriage counselors..

From their stories, they show us the problems most marriages will face, and how they faced those challenges in their own marriage.. I think one main message is that the person u'll be marrying or who you are married to is your friend comes out very clearly throughout the book.. and the other message that comes out repeatedly is that both parties are sinners in desperate need for God, hence even in the down times, both the husband and wife must look to God for help.. I think that most of the time, the authors are faithful in teaching what the Bible says, which is great!

here are some quotes which I felt were excellent..

"Marriage often starts out as a journey between friends. It gets off course as friends become business partners trying to pay the bills, parents trying to raise the kids, caregivers trying to tend to aging parents, cab drivers trying to shuttle family members to various events, event planners trying to pull off everything from holidays to birthday parties, and lovers trying to keep the flames of passion hot. Perhaps the key is to always be working on the friendship, because in the end the rest of marriage seems to come together more easily and happily when you are working on it with your friend." (Pg 27)

"... if I accept God's forgiveness of my sins but refuse to forgive my spouse of his or her sins, I am in effect saying by my actions that my spouse's sin against me is worse than my sin against God." (Pg 92)

This book focuses on the friendship and intimacy between the husband and wife, and does a really good job with that. It doesn't spend so much time talking about how to raise children, deal with the in-laws, and serving together in church.. But I guess including all that would make the book really really thick.. Perhaps these topics could be included in the sequel? Perhaps..

I would heartily recommend this book to couples considering marriage, and all married couples.. by Nic Wong
