Full description for Primordial Soup

  • Kate Lester grows up in Florida under the tutelage of her domineering widowed Lithuanian mother who gives her daughters an unusual education and a bizarre view of the world which cuts them off from other children. Kate develops an aversion for meat and battles for her own identity by refusing to eat her dinner, disposing of meat anywhere she can find - the toilet, the nearby canal, under the floorboards - after smuggling it away from the table in her underwear. The punishment for getting caught is to be locked in the pantry.Adolescence creates in Kate a hunger which she can't explain and which transforms her hatred of meat into desire. At college she embraces religion, but her biblical studies lead her into seeing the world as a vast meat stew, a primordial soup of ever changing ingredients. Sex seems to offer salvation until she combines it with her hunger for meat.
