Ok, it's from 1988. It's dated. But it is a detailed review of all predatory dinosaurs. Many of the Illustrations by Paul himself have become standard and copied in many other books and articles. The silhouettes although familiar are presented for the first time for most species.
This was supposed to be the first in a series, with herbivores and omnivores to follow. These latter didn't eventuate but the Scientific American books of dinosaurs, edited by Paul, are worthy successors. Such are the travails of being a freelance paleontologist, the work must follow the money.
Paul is a worthy acolyte of paleontologies venerable enfant terrible, Robert Bakker. His illustrations are top notch and his analysis, while not without controversy, is well argued and thoughtful. Many of his reclassifications have stood the test of time and even when disputed are well supported.show more
