DescriptionWorld-renowned exercise scientist Tudor Bompa's landmark work in sports conditioning established a whole new way for athletes and coaches to schedule training in the modern sports era. To this day, Bompa continues to refine the process and in this new edition of "Periodization, Theory and Methodology of Training", he shares the training timetable used by Olympic gold medalists and champions in all types of sports. This book presents Bompa's scientifically based principles and how to apply them to optimally train athletes' energy systems for their sports and for their roles in those sports. Coaches and athletes will treasure this access to training schedules, proven to maximize performance and minimize the risk of injury and boredom. The ready-made programs provided for 32 sports eliminate the guesswork and establish a clear path to achieving the best results. The book contains detailed plans for training the body's energy and neuromuscular systems: aerobic training for stamina, anaerobic training for power and speed and resistance training for strength. "Periodization, Theory and Methodology of Training" is the ultimate conditioning planner to train smarter, not harder, in gaining an edge over the competition.

Tudor O. Bompa, PhD, is recognised worldwide as the foremost expert on periodization training. He first developed the concept of "periodization of strength" in Romania in 1963, as he helped the Eastern Bloc countries rise to dominance in the athletic world. Since then, Bompa has used his system to train 11 Olympic Games and world championship medalists and elite athletes. A full professor at York University in Toronto, Bompa has authored several important books on physical conditioning, including Serious Strength Training, Second Edition, Periodization Training for Sports and Total Training for Young Champions as well as numerous articles on the subject. He has made presentations on periodization training in more than 30 countries. G. Gregory Haff, PhD, is an assistant professor of exercise physiology in the School of Medicine at West Virginia University in Morgantown. Haff has published more than 50 articles, focusing his research on performance effects in the areas of strength training, cycling, and nutritional supplementation.
