Reviews for Parrot and Olivier in America

    Carey at his best5

Jeremy Peter Carey is most enjoyable when it's obvious he is relishing his characters. Such is the case here. Olivier and Parrot, who take turns narrating the story, are both larger than life.

Olivier is a stick in the mud French aristocrat thrown into the task of exploring the wonders of democracy in a young America. Parrot is his lackey, rough around the edges but so, so readable.

    It's a buddy story. It's a critique of democracy/aristocracy. It's also a back-handed poke at Bush-era America.

But most importantly, it's a ripper yarn. by Jeremy
