Product description

Not suitable for children under 3 years of age A string of paper dolls go on a fantastical adventure through the house and out into the garden. They soon escape the clutches of the toy dinosaur and the snapping jaws of the oven-glove crocodile, but then a very real pair of scissors threatens. A stunning, rhythmical story of childhood, memory and the power of imagination from the author of THE GRUFFALO, and new illustrating talent Rebecca Cobb.

Author information

Julia Donaldson is the outrageously talented, prize-winning author of the world's most-loved picture books and was the 2011-13 UK Children's Laureate. In addition, Julia writes fiction, as well as poems, plays and songs -- and her brilliant live children's shows are always in demand. Rebecca Cobb is a rising star in children's picture books. Since graduating from Falmouth College of Arts in 2004, Rebecca has illustrated for many clients including The Guardian Guide and The Independent. She has created two solo picture books for Macmillan -- the hugely accomplished Greenaway-Medal-nominated MISSING MUMMY (978-0-230-74951-1) and the stunning LUNCHTIME (978-0-230-74952-8), winner of the 2013 Waterstones Children's Book Prize.

This is a lovely book for mothers and young girls everywhere. The illustrations are lovely and the narrative discusses memories in such a way that this book could be useful when discussing the death of a loved one.

My 26 month old daughter loves this book. It is highly recommended.

Review quote

A picturebook that seems simple but gets richer every time you look at it... Cobb's illustrations capture the joy of childhood; between them, she and the Children's Laureate have made a book that works like magic. -- Nicolette Jones The Sunday Times The Paper Dolls and The Crocodile Who DIdn't Like Water [and My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish] were all picked as top summer reads in the Metro this week. The selectors included George Hanratty from Tales on Moon Lane bookshop and Katherine Woodfine from Booktrust. metro.co.uk Rebecca Cobb's beautifully drawn and colourful illustrations are absolutely charming... I don't want to spoil the ending, but I can say that the inherent message of the story, that nothing is truly destroyed once it becomes a memory, left us both feeling surprisingly contented! muffandteacake.co.uk
