Product description

This is a new edition of an innovative and popular introduction to ophthalmology, which in its first edition was awarded the Asher Prize in the Royal Society of Medicine Book Awards. After an introduction to the anatomy of the eye and its examination, the major diseases of the eye and their management are described, followed by a problem-based introduction to clinical decision making. For this third edition, the book has been revised to take account of the many advances in this specialty including the use of monoclonal antibodies in the treatment of 'wet' age-related macular degeneration and new surgical techniques for corneal transplants.

There are not many textbooks out there for medical students on such a specialized medical field - ophthalmology. This book is, in my opinion, the perfect book for any medical student that want to know a little bit more than 'just enough' in the field. I found the clinical pictures in this book very useful and better than some of the 'crash course' books out there in the market. I like how the book covers from the basics to ophthalmology (i.e History and examination, drugs, and microbiology) to the diseases in ophthalmology. I love the section at the end of the book called 'clinical decision making' and it helps bring all aspects of the book together - allowing medical students to start thinking clinically in ophthalmology.

Review quote

Reviews of previous edition: This book is a good guide to ophthalmology with a to-the-point attitude...which is in full colour. -- Mad magazine, the official journal of Barts and The London Students' Association This is the book for the ones who are tired of heavy, difficult to read and unorganised medical literature...This 'key elements' frame is good for using both as an introduction to each theme and for summing up/repetition. -- Medical Student, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim I already own several books in the 'Illustrated Colour Text' series, and like the approach to medical specialties...The information given is written in a style easy for the non-specialist to understand, but gives enough detail to give a good understanding of the topic being covered...Overall I found this book to be a useful addition to my medical library, I look forward to using it when I come to study my ophthalmology block and will recommend it to my peers. -- Medical Student, Dundee University, UK
