Reviews for Obsidian
Review from MediaBooks
« Obsidian » is the kind of book that once you open it, you can’t close it! I’ve been completely addicted to it; I turned the pages so fast, that two days later I had already finished this amazing first novel in the Lux trilogy. I loved reading it so much! It’s the best paranormal romance I’ve read so far…
Even if it shares some similarities with Twilight (moving to a new town, new school, and unrealistically beautiful students), the author, Jennifer L. Armentrout has created her own world and wonderful, unique characters.
There are no vampires in the book, and there is really refreshing ! Instead, there are other kinds of supernatural « monsters » !
The author has done a very good job with this book. There are a lot of twists and action scenes, but the highlight of the story is the relationship between the two main characters. I quite fell in love with Katy and Daemon’s love-hate relationship. They both have strong personalities and their conversations are so entertaining.I couldn’t help laugh whenever they talked to each other! They’re really cute…
I loved Katy from the beginning. She runs a book blog and naturally I felt close to her. She could eventually be my best friend! She’s exactly the kind of character I like because she is a little shy but strong, and she has an awesome spunky attitude!
What can I say about Daemon? He is unbelievably hot, but he also brought a new meaning to the word « jerk »! He was insulting so often that I wanted hate him and beat him most of time. But as the story progressed, he improves his behavior. I knew a good guy was hiding under his hurtful attitude! And honestly, who doesn’t love bad boys?
Dee, Daemon’s sister, is also an amazing character. She is the total opposite of her brother, she is very sweet and friendly. I really liked her friendship with Katy.
In short, I loved everything about this novel. I don’t have ANY complaints. The plot, the characters, and the writing style, they are all perfect!
So I only have one piece of advice: READ THAT BOOK as soon as possible!

Where have I been?!?!?!
So, I hadn't ever read an Armentrout novel before. I'd heard amazing things about her work, but I was just, like, stuck. In the land of the dead, apparently. I just never got around to reading her before. And when I was browsing my libraries digital books, I saw Obsidian, then asked y'all if I should read it. I got a good response of yes! Read it. She's amazing, and so forth. So, I read it. And my verdict? I'm in love. I must now acquire all things Armentrout for my personal reading library! She is amazing with a capital zing!
Katie and Daemon.....oh my god. I loved them both!!! I wasn't sure I would love Daemon as much as I did when I first was introduced to him in the story. He was a bit, um, overbearing? And Katie's reaction to him was a bit a stand-off-ish. But, as I read through the story and realized the connection they would have, I could look back and understand their attitudes. Ms. Armentrout incorporated them perfectly together for the story! Daemon was tall, dark, sexy. Katie was the book blogger (yea! She totally rocked, though I will forever out do her in my love of books!). Perfect combo.
And the paranormal aspect to the story was beyond incredible! Definitely not your sappy werewolf vamp novels. The plotline that Ms. Armentrout chose was interesting and hooked me instantly. I was turning the pages long into the night....I just didn't want to put it down! And the ending.....THE ENDING!!! I was so surprised with the ending (y'all know I don't give out spoilers so don't expect me to tell you WHAT the ending was!) that I was like, really? That's it? I want more and I want more now! I thought that to myself and immediately went to the library site and checked out Onyx! Yea. I can't wait to read it!
Definitely recommending this to everyone. It's a completely, utterly addictive read that you won't be able to put down. If I could give it more than 5 stars I most definitely would. Ms. Arementrout is the best and I can't wait to read the rest in this series! by Reviews By Molly
This was a really fun book. Loved the sarcastic humor and the love/hate relationships. interesting take on the Blacks etc race...(don't want to spoil it for some). I found it to be a refreshing change to the oh-so-popular vampires, werewolves etc etc.
The characters all had their different, loveable qualities and I have fallen in love with them all, a few more deeply (Daemon & Katy) than others (Ash & Andrew). With more than enough sarcasm and snarky remarks coming from the main two, there were a lot of loving, gentle moments too. Even some sexy. ;) The romance was not over-powerful or anything, not really anything that seemed over to top, but it managed to come through loud and clear. I loved awaiting what was going to happen next between the involved characters.
I started and finished today and I wasn't board for a second reading this book and am eagerly awaiting my friend to lend me the second lovely novel tomorrow! I am odering them for my very own as well. ^_^ by TeeganLeigh Mudge
Amazing book I freaking loved it! The love/hate relationship was crazy good, i found myself giggling all throughout. The characters were 3D and very realistic. Well done! by Madison Anne Wiles

Favourite Quote: "To Daemon, my arrival was the beginning of the end. The apocalypse. Kat-mageddon."
I've read only one book by Jennifer L. Armentrout and it was her adult novel 'Tempting The Best Man' and I loved that so I decided to try out her YA novel and guess what? I LOVED IT TOO.
Let's start with the characters, Katy was just your average teenage who loved to blog about books (she was a nerd, just like the rest of us) so I liked her straight anyway. Then I loved her because of her personality, she was witty, sarcastic, and funny. She was an awesome main character.
Then there's Daemon who is just sex on legs (have you seen that cover!!!!) buuuuuut his personality is hot and cold. One moment he's flirting with Katy the next he's telling her she can't be friends with his sister. So yeah, I had a love/hate relationship with him. But overall I really did love him.
The plot was original in my opinion, but I did personally see moments were I was reminded of Twilight, but that's not a bad thing (I loved twilight!). The novel was fast paced, with a lot of funny moments and witty dialogue. And the ending doesn't leave you on a cliffhanger but it does make you want to read the next book as fast as you can. So I definitely recommend guys!!! 5 stars!!! by Moodyno1
Daemon, abduct me, please!
Obsidian is the first book in the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Obsidian has left more than satisfied. Obsidian is fun, wonderful, intense, and romantic and the list goes on and on.
I had always thought of aliens as little green creatures with big heads, long arms and legs, and yes, with enormous eyes! But oh, sweet babies Jesus, if aliens are like Daemon, well, abduct me, please! Instead of those nasty creatures that give the impression of wanting to eat us alive and dominate the planet Earth that we see on TV shows like The X Files, Armentrout's aliens provide us a very different side of what we always thought we knew.
Katy moves to a small town in West Virginia. Katy sure knows how to defend herself and kick some alien butt! And she's so freaking loyal! What really sealed the deal is that she's a blogger, people! And although it isn't a fundamental part of the story line, I was fascinated by her love for books and her blog. I felt really "identified" with her in that part.
Daemon is beautiful *le sigh*, arrogant, mysterious and a jerk! There were times when I wanted to give him a slap on the wrist, but then he would do something terribly sweet ♥. And yes, I think I should hate him o dislike him at least, but no, sorry, I completely fell in love with him!
Katy's and Daemon's relationship is really...interesting. They're always fighting like cats and dogs, but there are a few times in which they are so cute together. But, God, I'd be lying if I say I didn't love their little fights, passion and dynamic. Definitely, these two are one of my favorite couples. Dee is another character I really liked; she's fun and always full of energy. I wish I had neighbors like *coughDaemoncough* them.
Undoubtedly, I recommend you to read Obsidian, and once you start you won't be able to stop! by Annaiss
AMAZINg!! Love this series, A MUST Read!
Be sure to stop by my book blog, as I have this review there, with lots of sexy Daemon photos to spruce it up. Also the book trailer too.
Concise Book Reviews By Michelle
I had really, really loved Shadows, so am not surprised to love Obsidian as well. I had read Shadows first, and am glad I did. It was a great story on Daemon's twin Dawson. So now, we are in the life of Daemon and Katy. He acts all tough and treats her like dirt, really, but I could somehow see that is all a charade for him. He just has a bitter taste in his mouth about humans, since he is not human, he is an alien, a Lux, if you read Shadows, you would know this. Dee is great, she is Daemon and Dawson's brother, they are triplets, and she really wants and needs a friend, so she tries to befriend Katy as soon as she moves in. Of course Daemon tries all he can to keep them from being friends. He thinks it's dangerous for Dee, and he would do anything to protect her, after all, she is all he has left, after Dawson's disappearance. I think you will enjoy this book and especially the 2nd book Onyx if you read Shadows, the prequel first. But FOR sure read Shadows before Onyx, just trust me, its info you will need.
Here is a quote from when Daemon and Katy first meet:
Kindle Location 124
"Can I help you?" Full, kissable lips turned down in annoyance.
His voice was deep and firm. The kind of voice accustomed to people listening and obeying without question. His lashes lifted, revealing eyes so green and brilliant they couldn't be real. They were an intense emerald color that stood out in vibrant contrast against his tan skin.
As you can seen, she likes what she sees, then he opens his mouth, and he is less than nice, that is for sure. Here is a part where he is a little insulting to Katy:
Kindle Location 145
"I'm not a kid. I'm seventeen."
"Is that so?" He blinked. "You look like you're twelve. No. Maybe thirteen, but my sister has this doll that kinda reminds me of you. All big-eyed and vacant."
I reminded him of a doll? A vacant doll? Warmth burned in my chest, spreading up my throat. "Yeah, wow. Sorry to bother you. I won't be knocking on your door again. Trust me." I started to turn, leaving before I caved to the rampant desire to slam my fists into his face. Or cry.
This banter between Katy and Daemon is hilarious, I really got a kick out of it, you can tell as time goes by, that there is that passion under all the banter, and a fun wit that I love. Here is another fun part between Katy and Daemon.
Kindle Location 465
"You don't seem like a person who does anything he doesn't want to do."
"Normally I'm not." He moved around to the back of the car. "But my sister took my car keys and until I play nice, I don't get them back. It's too damn annoying to get replacements."
I tried to stop it, but I laughed. "She took your keys?"
He scowled, returning to my side. "It's not funny."
"You're right." I laughed. "It's freaking hilarious."
Daemon shot me a dirty look.
I folded my arms. "I'm sorry, though. I'm not accepting your not-so-sincere apology."
"Not even when I'm cleaning your car?"
It's funny how Dee demanded Daemon to play nice with Katy, or he would not get his car keys back, she is funny.
I really fell in love with the characters in this book, I started to love Dee in Shadows, as in that book we get some stuff from her point of view, and some with Daemon's point of view, which was awesome, it gave me a better perspective of why he is so harsh in this book, and I forgive him more for it. I finally fell for Daemon too, like everyone else, but still really love Dawson too. Daemon is great in his own ways. I like how he really does look out for Katy, after he saves her life and when doing that, it left a "trace" on her, which is a glow, like a aura around her, but only other Luxen can see it, or their enemy the Arum can see it, which is a danger to her and the Luxen, as they will be able to see it, and it will then lead them to the Luxen, which they kill for their "energy life force". He doesn't feel he should leave her side; he needs to protect her until it fades.
I love this part, where Daemon is being thoughtful, and shows a little of his true and vulnerable side.
Kindle Location 844
"I've always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect." His eyes searched mine intently, and for a moment we stood there toe to toe. "The ones who throw their beauty around, waste what they have? Their beauty is only passing. It's just a shell hiding nothing but shadows and emptiness."
He does have a softer side, but usually he will follow things like that with some wit. This part really cracked me up, when she found out he was an alien (come on, everyone knows he is, so it should not be spoilery, lol)
Kindle Location 1967
"This is crazy, but I'm not scared of you."
"No." I laughed, but it sounded a bit crazed-totally unconvincing. "You don't look like an alien!" It seemed important to point that out.
He arched a brow. "And what do aliens look like?"
"Not...not like you," I sputtered. "They aren't gorgeous-"
"You think I'm gorgeous?" He smiled.
I shot him a dark look. "Shut up. Like you don't know that everyone on this planet thinks you're good-looking." I grimaced, shocked to even be having this conversation. "Aliens-if they exist-are little green men with big eyes and spindly arms or...or giant insects or something like a lumpy little creature." Daemon let out a loud laugh. "ET?"
"Yes! Like ET, *******. I'm so glad you find this funny. That you want to screw with my head more than you guys have already screwed with it. Maybe I hit my head or something." I started to climb to my feet.
This part here with Katy and Dee was funny, where Dee shows an example of some of her abilities to Katy.
Kindle Location: 2186
"Don't freak out."
"Okay." I clenched my glass of OJ.
Closing her eyes, her body faded into the light and then she became someone totally different. Light brown hair fell past her shoulders and her face was a bit paler. Eyebrows arched over large, doe eyes, and her rosy-colored lips formed a half smile. She was shorter, a little more normal looking.
"Me?" I squeaked. I was staring at me.
"Hey," Dee-as-me said. "Can you tell us apart?"
Heart pounding, I started to stand but didn't make it. My mouth moved but no words came out. "This is...weird." I squinted. "Does my nose really look like that? Turn around." She did. I shrugged. "My butt doesn't look bad." The exact replica of me laughed and then faded out.
One thing Jennifer L. Armentrout does, and never fails to do, is make us all fall head over heels in love with her characters. She did it to me in the Covenant series, and did it again to me with this Lux series. How could we not fall in love? All her sizzling character chemistry, and well written characters, in an action packed books, will always leave us wanting more. Her writing is just amazing. If you have not read any of her books yet, I suggest you do, you will be sucked in like the rest of us.
You know what else I think is really cool about this book? Katy is a book blogger! Yep, a book blogger like a lot of us fans are, and it sure makes us relate to her on a whole new level.
I am going to leave you with one more juicy quote that had me turning red, and laughing at the same time.
Kindle Location 2339
"So, you guys are like us in other, uh, departments?"
Daemon sat up, arching a brow. "Come again?"
I felt my cheeks flush. "You know, like sex? I mean, you guys are all glowy and stuff. I don't see how certain stuff would work."
Daemon's lips curled into a half smile, and that was the only warning he gave. Moving unbelievably fast, I was on my back and he was above me in a flash. "Are you asking if I'm attracted to human girls?" he asked. Dark, wet waves of hair fell forward. Tiny droplets of water fell off the ends, splashing against my cheek. "Or are you asking if I'm attracted to you?" Using his hands, he lowered himself slowly. There wasn't an inch of space between our bodies. Air fled my lungs at the contact of his body against mine. He was male and ripped in all the places I was soft. Being this close to him was startling, causing an array of sensations to zing through me. I shivered. Not from the cold, but from how warm and wonderful he felt. I could feel every breath he took, and when he shifted his hips, my eyes went wide and I gasped.
Oh yeah, certain stuff was definitely working.
Daemon rolled off me, onto his back beside me. "Next question?" he asked, voice deep and thick.
I didn't move. I stared wide-eyed at the blue skies. "You could've just told me, you know?" I looked at him. "You didn't have to show me."
I highly recommend you read this book, or start with Shadows if you have not read any of the Lux books yet. But you can read this one, then Shadows, as most people had, as Shadows is a prequel that came out AFTER this, but to me, it was more fun reading it first. Either way, what are you waiting for? The Luxen babes are waiting!

A scifi-romance that I would recommend to everyone!
Obsidian is a fun and action-packed book. It's full of wonderfully charming characters that you will love and care for. As for the cover? Who wouldn't drool over that?
You know what made me so crazy about reading this book in the first place? It was the blurb. More specifically, ".....I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up. And then he opened his mouth." I'd heard many great things about Jennifer L. Armentrout and I just knew Obsidian would be good! Read it!
I loved the characters! They were fun! They were exciting! Katy, I found that I could really relate to her, like REALLY relate to her. She is a book blogger! A girl who is totally obsessed over books, like me! Katy is courageous and brave. She's always willing to risk her life for others. I don't think she realises how beautiful she really is, like many girls I know! But there's one thing I absolutely hate about her. She lives next door to a hottie. Damn, many girls would loose an arm and a leg to live where she does! Daemon Black. The untouchable boy with amazing green eyes and a tanned chest. *Drooool* Okay, so maybe Daemon isn't the nicest of guys, but he does try. He's not very good with words, his eyes and actions give his emotions away. When you read Obsidian, please read it slowly and savour every single scene with Daemon in it! Onyx, the sequel, isn't going to be out for another few months (August 2012, BOOOO).
Obsidian will leave you breathless and pratically BEGGING for more. The action and steamy romance will hook you in like no other. As pages turn and days past, you will slowly see friendships blossom and relationships begin. You see Katy slowly get over her father's death, eventhough he died 3 years earlier she still feels the loss and emptiness. The fact that her mother works most hours a day does not make those feelings dissappear. I really felt for Katy, she's had a tough life and I don't think she deserved to be treated like the plague when she moved!
Having the whole paranormal twist made it so much more interesting. I don't want to give away toooo much information! But let's just say that Daemon is one fit alien and damn, he lights up my world. by Samantha
Holy Alien Babies...everywhere!!
Lux series Book 1
Okay so I waited for this book forever! I finally got it and read it non stop! It was amazing. I loved everything about it. The story line, plot, the idea of aliens, the characters, the romance and all the hilarious conversations between Daemon and Katy! LOL ;)
It was kind of sad about the whole situation with Dawson (Daemon's brother). I can't wait to find out his story. I just wish he comes back with Bethany somehow. My fave part about the book was the first conversation Daemon and Katy have. It was soooooo funny, I had tears in my eyes cause I was laughing so hard! ;p
Katy is your average teenage girl. I love the fact the she doesn't get intimidated and has a mind of her own. She believes in what is right and follows her instincts and her heart (Daemon...LOL)! She was incredible in this story, no matter how many times Daemon pushed her away, she only tries harder to be in his and his sister's life! It was inspiring.
Then we have Daemon.mmmmmmm! Well, the first thing that comes to my mind is YUMMMM and then he is sooo funny! Although, he puts up a "douchebag" face he actually cares for Katy...even if it's in his own weird way. I love him. Really, that's all I can say. I think I am addicted to his funny comments. It was funny, cause when I was reading I always was anticipating when he would say something hilarious and I would laugh my ass off! LMAO;)
It was a really great, amazing, fantastic book! I can't wait to read Onyx next and see where Katy and Daemon's relationship goes. I just wish the waiting time was much less. If I had it my way...I'd get that damn book in this second!!! LOL ;) I recommend this book to everybody! It was crazy but sweet. A great way to pass your time! ;) by maida khalid
Now I'm a believer! (and a Daemon's fan too!)
When her mom decides to make a fresh start Katy can't say no because she understands that they both need to move on... But losing her dad and now leaving her friends and her whole life behind is not easy although it's the right thing to do.
So she finds herself in the middle of a small town and instantly knows that, being the "new girl" will give her the spotlight... something she really dreads.
But for now she can dedicate herself to her blog about books, her lovely books and the unpacking of all her stuff.
And everything was fine until she tries to be friends with her neighbors, Daemon and his sister Dee. Turns out these two are aliens and every single human that becomes friendly with them disappears without a trace...
But Katy can't stay away from Dee, who becomes her best friend, and even from Daemon despite the fact that sometimes he is kindness personified and then turns into a cold *******. The attraction is there and no one can deny it.
Now the only problem is that someone is trying to kill Katy and use her to get to the aliens...
Where to begin? Well, first of all, now I understand the whole craziness surrounding Daemon... And yes, I'm totally his fan, woohoo! His sarcasm, his comebacks, his smile and those eyes will mesmerize you until the end of the book.
And Pepe, the model of the cover, just makes him even more yummy ;)
Anyway, going back to the book: I love the book. In fact Obsidian was my first book about aliens living among us and if all the alien books are like this one then I'm a believer! (and how much would I love to meet a Daemon right now...)
Sorry, I'm drooling too much, I know... But what can I say? Not only Daemon was to die for but also the plot was superb, the characters were very accurate, you will love the ones that need to be loved and you will hate the ones that need to be eliminated in order to save the day.
I also loved Katy for her strength and her loyalty. Those qualities are high in my ranking of 'essential things in a best friend'. I would be delighted to meet her in person.
And the fact that Jennifer made her a book blogger was AMAZING, kudos for that! It was so funny to Katy writing memes and reviews!
The pace was right also, nothing was rushed and nothing was missing, Obsidian has everything to be the perfect book, it's funny, it's different, it's entertaining, has lots of action, sarcasm, drama and love to keep you turning page after page.
And if you are like me then you will need (mark my words, NEED) to read the sequel, Onyx, right now... sadly it comes out in two months (August 14th, 2012) so we have to wait to read it, sigh.
Would I recomend it? You bet! Will you love it? I'm sure you will! Do I treasure my copy of Obsidian? Yes, I do :]
And now I'm off to read more of Jennifer's books... her Covenant series is next in my TBR and since I have them all I can't wait any longer, yay! by Alaiel Kreuz
