    Review quote
what students say: As a self confessed cookery dummy I found this book to be extremely useful. Its fun, easy to use, interesting and even my MUM uses it...a bargain price.A" This book was a present just before leaving for uni. I have now finished my 2nd year and its my bible! ...the recipes are all really easy and inexpensive.A" A beautifully illustrated book .. It's easy to follow & you don't need tons of equipment - not even scales!A" This book is absolutely amazing. I started university not being able to cook and now I cook shepherd's pie, curry and full roast dinners just a year afterwards.A" This book has revolutionized my eating habits! A menu for a week and planning what to buy will revolutionize spending habits too.A" If your child is starting uni please buy them this book because I really do not know how I would have got through uni without it.A" what mums say: Beware! May reduce phone calls home...From what I can gather, this book has been in daily use in my daughter's new household for the last 6 weeks... she's almost stopped phoning up to say How do I cook this?A"!A" I sent my lad off to university with a variety of student cookery books alongside a slow cooker. The slow cooker remains unused as are the other books - apart from this one. He shares a house with 5 lads, they all use this book.A" My son never used to do any cooking, but now he cooks for himself every day! My daughter starts University in October so I got one for her too.A" I will definitely buy a few more as gifts for friends' sons and daughters - excellent value!A" Joy May's guide teaches you how to use affordable and easy-to-get ingredients to make simple recipes that are a lot more exciting than the usual pasta or beans on toastA" From Metro's Five Essential ReadsA" for students
    Biographical note
I studied Art and Design at Loughborough College of Art and Design. Among other things, I now use my creativity to write cookbooks. I have been married to Ron for over 30 years and we have two sons, Ben and Tim, who have now graduated from Uni. When my sister and I were quite young, probably 5 and 6 years old, we started to cook, mainly cakes, biscuits and simple meals. By the time I was 12, we would cook Sunday lunch. I love this heritage and am passionate about good food. There is nothing I love more than having a house full of people to feed. I started out by writing out first student cookbook back in 2001. Since then we have written new editions including vegetarian versions of the original best seller. We have just finished our newest book called Nosh for Graduates which will be out in June 2010. This is a follow on to our student books and provide something a little more special and out of the ordinary. We have another book coming out later this year but I will keep a lid on that for now!
