Amigurumi (which means knitted stuffed toy) is the Japanese art of crocheting stuffed animals. The technique results in animals with large heads and small bodies, upholding the super cute aesthetic of amigurumi animals. Jam-packed with four-color photographs of seriously cute figures based on the classic Christmas poem, The Night Before Christmas, as well as patterns and step-by-step instructions on how to make them, this book will inspire you to pick up the needle and thread like no other craft project. The book teaches crocheters: basic crocheting techniques (perfect for beginners!); spiral techniques to ensure stuffing will not come out; versatile uses (using thick yarn, each dog is about 3 inches long, suitable for an iPod case; using slender threads, each dog will be 1 inch long, suitable for a cell phone case); how to make cute amigurumi crochet ornaments; patterns and detailed directions for how to make a variety of characters from Clement C. Moore's poem, including: Santa Claus, Reindeer, A mouse, A Christmas tree, A cat , A stocking, Two children - a boy and a girl.

Author Information

Clement C. Moore (1779-1863), an American scholar and poet, first wrote The Night Before Christmas in 1822 to entertain his children. A friend submitted it to a local newspaper, The Troy Sentinel, where it was published on December 23, 1823. Moore's delightful description of St. Nicholas and his eight flying reindeer has since become the definitive portrait of Santa Claus. Mitsuki Hoshi started her journey as a self-taught amigurumi maker when she purchased her first Mickey Mouse amigurumi kit. In 2002, she launched a website dedicated exclusively to amigurumi dogs. The site caught the attention of several dog magazines and became a huge hit. Today, as an accomplished amigurumi artist, her goal is to crochet everything from foods to animals. In her spare time, she works as an instructor, teaching students how to make amigurumi. Her published works include Life of an Amigurumi Dog, Life of an Amigurumi Dog 2, Life of an Amigurumi Dog 3, Ami Ami Restaurant, Mitsuki Hoshi's Amigurumi Zoo, Amigurumi Cats and Friends, Mitsuki Hoshi's Traveling Amigurumi, and Adorable Amigurumi with Giant Heads.
