DescriptionThe Contented Little Baby Book, based on Gina Ford's personal experience of caring for over 300 babies, was first published in 1999. It quickly established Gina as an influential new authority on baby and childcare issues and has remained one of the bestselling parenting books in the UK. This completely revised edition of The New Contented Little Baby Book contains the most up-to-date advice available to parents. Using the feedback from numerous readers and website members, Gina has been able to develop and elaborate on the information in her first book, while clearly setting out her philosophy on simple feeding and sleeping routines. By creating routines that match a growing baby's innate natural rhythms, Gina prevents the hunger, overtiredness and colic that can lead to excessive crying. Babies who are settled into Gina's gentle routines are happy and contented because their needs for food and sleep are appropriately met and they should sleep for their longest spell at night from an early age. With detailed, prescriptive information on everything parents need to know, this book includes chapters on: - Preparation for the birth - How the routines evolved and the benefits of following a routine - Milk feeding in the first year - Understanding your baby's sleep - Establishing a routine - Introducing solid food in line with government and World Health Authority guidelines - Common problems in the first year. Whether you are expecting your first child, or are experiencing difficulties with an older baby, this comprehensive guide contains all the expert guidance you need to help your baby feed and sleep well.

Anna Do not buy this book. It is full of terrible advice for new mums and can lead to serious bonding issues and depression. by Anna

  • Terrible1

Amelia Robertson This book is full of terrible advice. This book is not about doing the best for your baby, but forcing your baby to do what you want them to do and ignoring their emotional needs for bonding and closeness. The advice in this book is not backed by science or research and may very harmful in the long run, even if it makes a parent's life easier for the short term. by Amelia Robertson

    Very helpful!4

Deirdre Campbell-Morris I bought this book before my son was born, and while I never really read it from cover to cover it was a fantastic reference to have. The routines suggested by Gina were a very helpful guideline, although I would advise to only use them as a guideline and not as gospel as it can be quite disappointing when things don't go 'by the book'. Gina can be a little black and white with no areas of grey, which I didn't really like. However, her book got us through the difficult newborn stage and on through the first year. Our son is now a very contented 2 year old and we will definately be referring to this book again on the arrival of his little brother/sister. by Deirdre Campbell-Morris

Sarah Jupp Do people seriously inflict this on their babies? Makes me sad. :( by Sarah Jupp

  • Fantastic Gina!5

Jenny Lister My husband and I decided to follow Gina's routine after seeing the success that friends had and i'm delighted to say it worked fantastically for us and continues to do so. The book is easy to follow and of all the parents I know who have stuck with it our babies have slept through early, been great eaters and happy little ones. The basis of the book is to help you get into a routine that provides for your baby to have enough food in the day and sleep (so they aren't too tired to eat) so that they will sleep for extended periods at night. Great book - we also have others in the series! by Jenny Lister
