Product description

The stunningly original and brilliant first novel from storytelling genius Neil Gaiman. Now a six part radio dramatisation on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 4 Extra. Under the streets of London there's a world most people could never even dream of. A city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels, and pale girls in black velvet. Richard Mayhew is a young businessman who is about to find out more than he bargained for about this other London. A single act of kindness catapults him out of his safe and predictable life and into a world that is at once eerily familiar and yet utterly bizarre. There's a girl named Door, an Angel called Islington, an Earl who holds Court on the carriage of a Tube train, a Beast in a labyrinth, and dangers and delights beyond imagining...And Richard, who only wants to go home, is to find a strange destiny waiting for him below the streets of his native city. Author information

Neil Gaiman has spent his adult life making things up and writing them down. He lives more in America than he does anywhere else. He has written books and films and children's books and television. He has a blog over at www.neilgaiman.com. He's won more than his fair share of literary awards, was voted twenty-first equal on a recent poll of Great British Authors, and has no idea where he put his keys.

I got this book on a recommendation from a good friend and it did not disappoint!
It had everything to take the reader from the everyday world into a land that is completely enchanting and tantalisingly dark without coming across as ridiculous or mind boggling.
It's too easy to come to love, loathe or even fear the characters as they are all so well written that they may as well be standing in front of you reciting their lines!
You are brought through the book hand in hand with Door, through every high and every low and it is all written in a way that reads so seamlessly that hours may pass and the book will still be in your hands.
It's a challenge to leave it down.
