Book three in the series. Another enjoyable read about Botswana. This series is an easy read. Its refreshing to read a book with no violence.
'Forget the library - the body is in the mud hut. An African Marple created by a Scottish law lecturer' Stephen McGinty, S. TIMES * 'This is art that conceals art. I haven't read anything with such unalloyed pleasure for a long time' Anthony Daniels, S. TEL. * 'Highly amusing, intelligent and heart-warming' SCOTLAND ON S. * 'McCall Smith is a natural born storyteller, filling his prose with rhythm and repetition...Charming, quirky and timeless' SCOT. ON S.
This third in the 'Botswana' series finds Precious Ramotswe beset by problems. The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency has a dwindling number of clients, and her fiance, Mr J.L.B.Matekoni, has become puzzlingly morose and even more monosyllabic than usual. But there is a bright side. During his absence on sick-leave Mma Ramotswe and her over-qualified assistant, Mma Makutsi, abandon their expensively-rented accommodation and move into the Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors office, which enables them to save money - and keep an eye on the two feckless apprentices. The move is highly successful. Suddenly business becomes brisker. Both ladies are kept busy handling inquiries requiring both delicacy and sagacity; and the perfect 'treatment' is found for Mr J.L.B.Matekoni's depression. As always, the story is told with the author's customary gentle humour, heart-warming wisdom - and in his usual elegant prose, which is always a pleasure to read. A 'taster' for the next volume: 'The Kalahari Typing School for Men' follows the main story. (Kirkus UK)
