Author information

At the height of his business career, the author suddenly became acutely ill. He was diagnosed with Meniere's disease. But the full impact of having Meniere's disease was to come later. He was to lose not only his health, but his career as well. He also began to lose all hope that he would fully recover a sense of well-being. It was his personal spirit and desire to get "back to normal" that changed his life for the better. He decided that you can't put a limit on anything in life. He started to focus on what to do about Meniere's disease. These days life is different for the Author. He is a fit active man who has no symptoms of Meniere's except for hearing loss and tinnitus in one ear. Following his own advice he continues to avoid salt, stress, takes vitamins, exercises regularly and maintains a positive, mindful attitude. He did not have surgery and does not take any medication. All the physical activities he enjoys these days require a high degree of balance and equilibrium: snowboarding, surfing, hiking, windsurfing, weight training. He has a firm belief that if you want to experience a marked improvement in health, you can't wait until you feel well to start. You must begin to improve your health now, even though you may not feel like it. He knows, 'The more you do, the more you can do." Today the Author is a writer and painter. He is married to a Poet and Essayist. They have two adult children. The Author enjoys the sea, cooking, travel and the great company of family, friends and his beloved dog Bella.

Review quote

Even a medical person would take benefit from the advice given and the experiences you have had. Looking at alternative ways of helping a long standing, variable condition can be very helpful. The cause of Meniere's is unknown and therefore the treatments manifold, that straight medicine alone does not hold all the answers if indeed hold any at all. Dr W. Baber, Specialist: MB ChB, FRCS Inner Ear Disorders, Balance Disorders
