    Tara Sreeram I recieved this book as a gift, and, leafing through it, I immediatly noticed the absence of attractive a-typical manga illustrations. Not that the illustrations in this book aren't attractive, but I think it's safe to say that this book has a more practical approach focusing on actual comic making rather than illustration, as opposed to the books on manga authored by Christopher Hart which don't go into paneling or story-boarding at all and tend to be a bit of a hodgepodge on stylistic approaches and story conventions typically found in manga.

    With this book Mark Crilley, who is a comic artist himself, proves to be an excellent instructor with chapters on drawing heads and basic anatomy, but also pages on drawing different hairstyles and eyes. The book features pages with hands and feet in different positions to be used as reference, and instruction on drawing a kiss scene ; things that many artists find very difficult to draw.

    What I would also like to mention is Crilley's instruction on drawing adults, or at least characters who look noticeably older than the eternally pretty boys and girls that dominate manga-style illustration and comics.

    The last portion of the book dives into drawing backgrounds using perspective, with interesting exercises applying different kinds of perspective.

    I find this a very useful book, as with similar books I usually end up flipping through them over and over again just to look at the pretty illustrations rather than doing the exercises. In other words, it doesn't distract me from my goals to become a prolific manga artist . There are also several comics in this book featuring the author with encouraging words and tips.

    Adriana Lazar Considering that I wasn't even able to "hold" the pen the right way after some trying and following the instructions in the book I actually managed to create something worth showing others. I am impressed by myself :) it is kind of dummies proof. Would have liked a little bit more explain on the poses and faces but I do hope for another book(books) that explains in a more detailed way the particular poses..or chibi's :D Nice job Mark! by Adriana Lazar
