  • Mary Boleyn - A fascinating story finally told4

Emma Salik I have long been a fan of Alison Weir and her books - Most particularly her Tudor biographies. Being especially fascinated by Anne Boleyn I was excited to hear that Weir had a biography of Mary Boleyn coming out. I ordered it as soon as it was published and devoured the book in a day. I found it to be a compelling read and I learnt so much. I was fascinated to learn about Mary's upbringing and the possible royal paternity of her daughter. And as someone who has read The Other Boleyn Girl (Gregory) - I know its not reliable history but it's entertaining - I was so glad to see that the marriage of Mary and William Stafford really was a love match. It is true that there isn't much known about Mary, which Weir acknowledges, but Weir is able to use a wealth of research to support her claims. Some parts were a little repetitive but not overly so. Nobody writes history as well as Weir, she weaves a great story supported by thorough research. I rate this book highly for anyone who enjoys Tudor history and/or Weir's works. by Emma Salik
