Rehvenge, as a half-breed symphath, is used to living in the shadows and hiding his true identity. As a club owner and a dealer on the black market, he's also used to handling the roughest nightwalkers around - including the members of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. He's kept his distance from the Brotherhood as his dark secret could make things complicated on both sides - but now, as head of the vampire aristocracy, he's an ally that Wrath, the Blind King, desperately needs. Rehv's secret is about to get out, though, which will land him in the hands of his deadly enemies- and test the mettle of his female, turning her from a civilian into a vigilante...

Lover Avenged is the seventh book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R.Ward and, at 719 pages, it's almost a brick. However, Ward manages to capture the imagination of the reader with this fascinating world of vampires and slayers she has created. In this instalment, nightclub owner and drug dealer, Rehvenge makes a move towards the female of worth he is attracted to, a nurse at Haver's clinic Ehlena. Of course he knows he can't ever be worthy of her: after all, as well as the business aspect of his life, he's half sympath. Ehlena and her schizophrenic father are down-at-heel used-to-be glymera, so she feels she's out of Rehv's class. Rehv's security chief, Xhex, and his Shadow lieutenants iAm and Trez have greater roles in this book. Rehv has a lot on his plate, what with the sympath Princess blackmailing him, the glymera wanting his to murder the king, and someone systematically wiping out his drug dealers. Tohr may be back with the Brothers, but he's not out of the woods yet. Events have John Matthew hardening his heart. Wrath is under a death threat, but ultimately suffers a different but still devastating fate. Lash proves himself to be even more evil that he ever seemed. While all the Brothers and their mates feature, Wrath and Beth take centre stage; John Matthew, Rehv, Ehlena and Xhex are involved in most of the action. Ward manages to build a plot with plenty of twists, suspense, intrigue, humour, gorgeous males and hot sex; her characters have depth and the banter between the Brothers is always fun. This one has an exciting climax too.

! I absolutely loved ALL the stories within this book. At first I was a bit sceptical as to how Rehvenge's story would go as I didn't really like him in past books, but I was so wrong. Once reading about Rehvenge past and what he has been through to keep his family alive and what he has done to protect Xhex made me fall for him completely. Besides his sympath side he is truly a gentle giant, someone who cares more about the people in his life than himself. The relationship between Rehv and Elena was quite quick, but they both have strong personalities and are intrinsically driven to protect and save the helpless. Their love for each other was so pure and strong that it saved them from loneliness, segregation and death.
Then there are the other stories...
J.R. Ward has finally gone back to the roots and has recapped the relationship between Wrath and Beth. I loved reading about their story again, how even though they are mated it doesn't mean they don't have problems like any other married couple. They fight, lie, separate, compromise and love... a true relationship. I cannot wait to read more about them and Wrath's adjustment into his new world.
Then there is John Matthew who has been through soo much in the last year; from his transition, to losing Wellsie, his feelings towards Xhex and his adjustment to Tohr's return in the household. This is a story that I am very excited about to read in the next book and hopefully John doesn't have to suffer more than he already has since joining the vampire society.
Lastly there is Lash who is becoming stronger and stronger within the Lessening society, he is now an ultimate threat to the Brotherhood, which is his true turn on. I have a feeling big things are going to happen for him in the following book.
So I say bring it on!! Cannot wait to continue this series :)
