The first title in a brand new spin-off series. This title picks up the story from where "Victorious" ended and continues the adventures of Black Jack Geary. The series has been building up for several years, and is often compared to "Battlestar Galactica" and "Hornblower".

The story continues from the previous series The Lost Fleet so the reader will be better off if they have read the first series. While I have generally enjoyed the first series this first book felt like the last third - far from his strongest work. I am hoping that this book is just a establishing book to set up the up rest of the series but if the series continues in this style then I will likely cease the series. The writing itself is good but is let down by the quality of the story.
