Loop: Vintage Crochet contains a gorgeous collection of timeless fashion pieces, modern accessories, classic and quirky gifts, and modern-retro furnishings for the home and garden, all specially commissioned by Loop's founder, Susan Cropper, from a variety of leading international crochet designers. Using an array of sumptuous, textural yarns -such as alpaca, silk, cotton, mohair and cashmere- in subtle, earthy and vibrant colours, such as dirty pinks and blues, shades of cream, earthy brown, leafy green and burnt orange, these nostalgic designs will let you indulge your inner hippie-chick while creating future heirlooms to treasure. The projects feature a variety of different stitches and techniques -some quick and easy, and others requiring more time and skill. Each pattern comes with yarn specifications and suggestions for embellishments using buttons, ribbons and pompoms. They are divided into four chapters: 'Boho Babes' -beautiful clothes and accessories with a hippie-ish vibe; 'Nostalgic Home' -modern-retro home furnishings; 'Lazy Summers' -pretty items for outdoor living; and 'Gorgeous Gifts' -perfect presents to give away or to keep for yourself. Loop: Vintage Crochet bursts with enough originality and inspiring ideas to get even the most un-crafty of people running for their knitting needles.

Susan Cropper's passion for knitting, crochet and textiles led to the opening of Loop in London in July 2005. Trusting in her creative instincts Susan conceived the kind of shop she wanted to be able to go to - one that is warm and friendly, sells fabulous yarns, has great pattern support and knowledgeable, helpful staff. Loop was voted one of the top 100 shops in London by Time Out magazine, as well as one of the hottest shops by Elle Decoration. Originally from New York, Susan studied Textile Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the School of Visual Arts, New York. For the past 20 years she has worked as an Art Director and Designer for major UK publications and companies in both home and lifestyle areas. She lives in London with her husband and three children.
"Cropper ("Pretty Knits") enlisted the assistance of several well-known designers for this collection of vintage-inspired patterns that draws from a variety of eras, from the sophisticated 1940s and 1950s to the relaxed 1960s and 1970s. The book is organized by type of projecta clothing, housewares, accessories, and giftsa rather than period, so a classic-Hollywood style wrap, a 1970s-style mesh tunic, and a bobbled cloche-and-scarf combo show up in the same chapter. This can be a bit jarring, but it could also help crocheters find designs that may be outside their comfort zone. Directions are provided for each pattern; an appendix covers the specialty stitches used in the patterns. Most of the projects are appropriate for advanced beginners and beyond. And the styling is gorgeousa each project has a multipage treatment with fashion-style photos as well as detailed close-ups. VERDICT In the wrong hands, vintage or vintage-style patterns can take a turn for the costumey, but this collection avoids that fate by using the past as inspiration rather than directly imitating it. Fashion-forward crocheters will have fun with these designs." --Library Journal"
