  • As well as a work of incalculable literary value, this novel is a clear example of just how far imagination and human activity applied to a specific end can carry us. Mark Z. Danielewski's masterpiece, "La casa de hojas," consists of two parallel stories: that of Johnny Truant and his frenetic existence in Los Angeles at the beginning of the 1990s; and one which begins when Truant finds a manuscript in the house of an old man who has just died. This manuscript tells the story of a married couple who move to a house in the country. This upper-middle class North American family soon make a terrifying discovery: the house is bigger on the inside than on the outside. This discovery unleashes a series of events in which family unity and harmony are brought under the spell of this nightmare architecture.
