Reviews for Into the Wilderness
Fun fun fun
I was pulled in by the tag "readers of Diana Gabaldon will love this" and I wasn't disappointed.
Protagonist Elizabeth shares some qualities as an Austen heroine of the same name; educated, outspoken, and unlikely to go along with what everyone else wants her to. A 30-year-old spinster, she arrives in the American wilderness with the intention of teaching a school, but discovers that her father plans to marry her off instead. She also meets Nathanial, and grudgingly discovers that spinsterhood isn't as appealing as it once was.
I loved this series because it was romantic without being soppy, and it had a good, driving plot. It also builds the base for the rest of the series, and starts to build in epic-ness (yes, I do believe that's a word) that doesn't subside until the last page of the last book. A re-re-reader and oh so fun! by Lisette Muratore
