An emotional rollercoaster!

17-year-old Sophie Topper Quinn was named after her mother (Sophie) and her Uncle (Edward Topper), but things have changed in 17 years. Her mother ran off with Uncle Edward, and now her father will only call her Quinn.
As if this wasn't bad enough, now everybody in town has a new reason to hate her; her boyfriend Carey joined the Marines, and he's MIA. Why do they hate Sophie/Quinn? Because they think she cheated on Carey before he was deployed.
Only Sophie/Quinn knows the truth. She's hiding a secret that Carey asked her to keep, and no matter how bad her life gets, she refuses to reveal that secret, even though it changes everything. The best of it is nobody even knows who she cheated with - Carey's best friend Blake, and he won't come clean and take part of the blame because of a promise that he made to Carey.
This book was really emotional. I wasn't sure if I would like it at first, but I got into it after a while and it got much better. I hated what Carey had left Sophie to. As much as he didn't want his secrets revealed, he left her to be hated by the entire town. He left her alone hiding his secret, which not only cost her her friends, but even cost her her own father.
I hated that Blake wouldn't come forward as the boy that Sophie 'cheated' with, but Carey had really done a number on the two of them with his promises. I thought that Blake could have made Sophie's life a little easier though without revealing himself to be the one she cheated with. He could have been her friend even whilst everyone else wasn't, but he didn't. He totally left her to face the music on her own.
I hated that Sophie didn't share Carey's secret with anyone. If she had just told Blake, or even just told people that there were circumstances that they didn't know about, she might have helped herself a little, but she was determined to say nothing at all which didn't help her.
I hated the way that the other people in the town treated Sophie. They hated her because she was turning into a cheat like her mother, and they hated her for cheating on a marine. It was really unfair how nobody wanted to hear Sophie's side of the story, and they just totally froze her out.
This book was an emotional rollercoaster, and at one point I actually cried. I was frustrated at so many points at how closely Sophie guarded Carey's secret, and I really wished that the secret could have just come out and saved Sophie a bit.
Overall; I really enjoyed this book, it was a great YA read, and quite different to the sort of things I normally read.
