An excellent read!
This book was an excellent read. The story had many intriguing turns and while quite unbelievable, very amusing, this book was hard to put down. Definitely a title I would recommend others to read. by Myra Johnston

I can't 100% put my finger on it, but I just couldn't get into this story. It had unique characters, developing plot line, humour, history, all of it... except something that made me want to stay awake. Honestly, after 30 or so pages my eyes would start closing.
I have a feeling that it was the continual distancing from the characters that turned me off. For example, rather than using speech bubbles to show what a character is saying, more often than not the author described what had happened briefly and without much detail. Eg, "But Allan calmed the vicar, promising that he had a plan to solve both those problems." rather than, "Allan said, "Don't worry, I have a plan" etc etc.
For this reason I always felt distanced from the character - that I was learning something the character said or did that isn't very important despite the fact it's the main storyline. I like the little details, the turns of phrase, actions and feelings. They make me interested in the character. To omit these more often than not just made me feel like I was hearing about a friend's friend who once did something of not much interest to me. I couldn't relate to them.
I suppose another part of it is that half the story describes the main character's history without the suspense. He's 100 years old. He obviously survived somehow. And due to the point I made above, I frankly didn't care how he did.
So ... meh. Not terrible, not brilliant.
I guess this doesn't bother many people though - it is an international best seller after all. by Miss Mary

I couldn't put it down. The sotory is funny and surprising but at some points predictable. It was good and easy read, I loved it :) by
