Foreword: Simon Toomer is Director of Westonbirt National Arboretum in Gloucestershire. He has worked at this magnificent Forestry Commission arboretum for the past 10 years. He originally trained in environmental biology and forestry, and previously worked as a practical forester, woodlands advisor and arboriculturalist.
