Product description

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, didn't expect to find its former tenant refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. As Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of Jared, a human who still lives in hiding, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she's never met. Reluctant allies, Wanderer and Melanie set off to search for the man they both love. Featuring one of the most unusual love triangles in literature, THE HOSTis a riveting and unforgettable novel about the persistence of love and the essence of what it means to be human.

Stephanie Meyer is not the best writer I have ever come across but that does not mean that she is bad. Her book The Host was absolutely amazing not the way in which it was written but the peculiar idea/s that the book possessed. This book had a uniques and creative storyline that was just fantastic and made the book impossible to put down. Like her other book twilight it had make believe things occur and a tiny bit of a romance but apart from that it was nothing like Twilight but a million times better. Definitely a good book to read!

This is not 'Twilight'. Depending on whether or not you are a fan of those series, this may either be the best or worst news. But don't ignore it based on Meyer's previous works; this books stands tall on its own. 'The Host' is a science fiction novel, that takes place in a future where Earth has been overtaken by a race of aliens known as 'Souls' who aim to bring peace to the planet in place of mankind's war, cruelty and hate. These 'souls' are like sci-fi parasites who take over human bodies until the human identity is completely erased; or so they hope. The take over is going well until the soul known as 'Wanderer' is placed inside Melanie, a human who has been outrunning the alien invaders for years. Unfortunately for Wanderer, Melanie refuses to hand over total control and so a mental tug-of-war ensues. The idea of 'body snatcher' aliens isn't new, but Meyer's perspective is. She explores the ideas of identity, humanity and freedom and what those things really mean; are they so black and white as you think?

'The Host' is long and does drag, but if you stick with it, you will really appreciate Meyer's sophisticated entry into sci-fi. It isn't necessarily violent or gritty or technical, but it is interesting and engaging. Overall, Meyer's 'The Host' is a good read and a nice change from the normal feast of vampires, werewolves and teenage angst.

It is a novel, so the book has a very nice small format. It is very pleasant to read (despite the small letters). The book reads pleasant and I'm just as addicted to this book as her Twilight books

Review quote

"A brilliant and fascinating premise.... Its mix of adventure and new love on a new Earth is just right to get lost in this summer." Sherri Hallgren, "Pittsburgh Post-Gazette""
