The Hobbit is a tale of high adventure, undertaken by a company of dwarves in search of dragon-guarded gold. A reluctant partner in this perilous quest is Bilbo Baggins, a comfort-loving unambitious hobbit, who surprises even himself by his resourcefulness and skill as a burglar. Encounters with trolls, goblins, dwarves, elves and giant spiders, conversations with the dragon, Smaug, and a rather unwilling presence at the Battle of Five Armies are just some of the adventures that befall Bilbo. Bilbo Baggins has taken his place among the ranks of the immortals of children's fiction. Written by Professor Tolkien for his own children, The Hobbit met with instant critical acclaim when published.

Set in Middle Earth, The Hobbit is an amazing tale of adventure! Set before the events of Lord of the Rings, it tells the tale of how the ring of power came to reside in Hobbiton. This isn't an epic like Lord of the Rings, its more of a fun fairy tale involving dragons and gold! It is fun and engaging and really easy to read, I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

"...Many of you have likely read this before, some of you have probably read it many times over, but I find that it's absolutely worth reading more than once. It's a great story of adventure and fantasy, and I had almost forgotten how many little songs Tolkien has peppered throughout the story! They were a lot of fun, and Bilbo's at the end is very sweet. Another huge bonus for map-geeks like me (I know there are others of you out there), there are a couple of maps in this book..."

The life of an ordinary and respectable hobbit involves little adventures. Bilbo Baggins had been living an ordinary and respectable life until a wizard by the name of Gandalf unexpectedly recruited him as a burglar, accompanying a group of dwarves on a mission to raid the treasures hoarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a dangerous dragon.
"The Hobbit" take readers on a journey with Bilbo Baggins, following him as he cleverly deals with elves, dwarves, goblins, dragons and more. Unleashing his adventurous side, Bilbo Baggins discovers there is more to life than his comfortable home and quaint lifestyle back in Hobbiton.
Complete with maps, poems, songs, and funny editorial comments, this is a must read for fantasy lovers. It has everything from elves, dragons, goblins, dwarves, wizards and more! The story has been excellently written, it is engaging, and never a boring moment.
Descriptive, charming, and enjoyable, this book is a tale about the need to get out of the comfort zones and see the world and beyond. Sure there will be bizarre and dangerous moments, but in the end, we all learn something about ourselves and the world around us.
While it is an fantastic book on its own, it also acts as a prequel to the "Lord of the Rings" series.
"The Hobbit" is one of my all-time favourite books, and therefore I highly recommend it!
'One of the most influential books of our generation! A flawless masterpiece' The Times 'The English-speaking world is divided into those who have read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and those who are going to read them.' Sunday Times
One of the 20th century's most popular and influential books, Tolkien's masterpiece tells the saga of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins who is taken away from his quiet life on a magical adventure by the wizard Gandalf. A wonderful concoction of goblins, elves and trolls. (Kirkus UK)
