Editorial reviews

This was published to tie in with an exhibition of the same name at the British Museum in London. However, the book stands well by itself. To look at the development of classical jewellery is to see the artistic flourishing of this period of Greek art - between the 5th and early-3rd century BC. The pieces come from Greece itself, the Greek colonies of Asia Minor, South Italy, the Crimea and so on. Jewellery as a subject is a reflection of trends in other artistic fields: the iconography crosses the boundaries with sculpture and drawing. Most staggering of all though is the detail of each piece - wonderful filigree work, animal heads on earrings or bangle ends. Fabulous, fantastic illustrations show every beautiful detail. (Kirkus UK)
