  • Overall a good UF read, I will be purchasing more in the series.4

    Rebs R + Story:

    I liked the overall story line, Alex is a grave witch, she can raise the shades (memories) of the dead. She uses her gift to help people get closure or find out who a murderer is by asking the victim. She doesn't make a lot of money at this and is basically broke. But Alex has more on her plate than worrying about her next paycheck, she stumbles into a mystery that may just get her killed. Women are dying and she is not able to raise their shades and find out who killed them, the bodies are covered in a dark magic she's never seen before and there are people trying to keep Alex from digging, so much so that they are willing to kill.
    Some of the story reminded me a bit of the Allie Beckstrom series, but I liked this take on a world that knows magic and fey exist.


    + Lore:

    I like the lore, it was subtle and not overpowering. Most of the stuff about magic or fae etc wasn't entirely new, I have read it in one book or another, but it was done in a way that didn't feel like it has been over done.


    + Romance:

    While there wasn't too much romance in this there was some, and I would say that there were two love interests. First you have Falin, the pompous and sometimes sweet detective that is extremely perturbed to have Alex getting involved in his investigation. Then you have Death, I kind of wish she had a nick name for him, because I don't like calling him Death, but I guess it will do for now. I am all about Death, I am Team Death if you will, I found him mysterious and sexy and he was quite obviously in love with Alex. I wish he had way more screen time and I have crossing my fingers that their relationship develops more in the second book.


    - Side Characters:

    Caleb/Holly/Tamara - Alex has a core group of close friends, I don't really have any issues with them but they also didn't really stand out either.


    + World/Setting:

    Neckros city was awesome, the city is filled more magically inclined and fae folk than any other causing political issues. I liked the whole dynamic of the city, it felt real and believable.


    Nit Picks:

    My only nit pick is that Death didn't have enough screen time and we didn't get to see more interaction between him and Alex by Rebs R
