Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don't always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. Profane, affectionate, and radically honest, California Book Award-winning author Adam Mansbach's verses perfectly capture the familiar and unspoken tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. In the process, they open up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations, and laugh at their absurdity. With illustrations by Ricardo Cortés, Go the Fuck to Sleep is beautiful, subversive, and pants-wettingly funny. A book for parents new, old, and expectant. You should NOT, however, read it to your children.

Samuel L. Jackson did a 'book on tape' recording of this book. It had me in tears from laughter.

I was really looking forward to this book as I'm a bit of a potty mouth myself but found the overuse of the word a little too much. I personally would have saved it for the last page. Great idea and so true to real life (my memories of my kids anyhow) just not as well executed as it could be. I did laugh out loud about the rest of the book especially about getting drinks, etc. Wouldn't buy it though, got it out the library with a view to buying for a friend but it didn't quite live up to the hype.

I don't understand some of the reviews. There is nothing even vaguely abusive about this book. It's funny and it rhymes. What's the problem?

What does it say about the state of publishing and the reading public that a book as feeble as this is a bestseller? It has only one idea, and that one is so very obvious, so commonplace. We sometimes have dark thoughts about our offspring, especially when chronically sleep deprived or stressed - who would have thought?! Oh, but it's so politically incorrect, so daring, so subversive! Give me a break.

Settle down, its a JOKE!! I read this book with some friends (all Mum's and Dads) ... and we were rolling on the floor in fits of laughter!! Well worth a read!!
"* 'Total genius.' - Jonathan Lethem, father of two, author of MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN * 'A children's book for grown-ups! I really did laugh out loud-hilarious!' - David Byrne, father of one, musician, artist * 'This is the most honest children's book ever written. And it's f*cking hilarious.' - A.J. Jacobs, father of three, author of THE YEAR OF LIVING BIBLICALLY * 'I wish this book had been around during my daughter's overly protracted sleep rituals! Finally, someone tells it like it really is. This is no-guilt funny and a godsend!' - Cristina Garcia, mother of one, author of THE LADY MATADOR'S HOTEL * 'Go the Fuck to Sleep is the secret anthem of tired parents everywhere. Adam Mansbach's homage to the tropes of bedtime stories is pitch perfect, and Ricardo Cortes's stunning illustrations will keep grown-ups and kids alike returning to these pages again and again!' - Bliss Boyard, author of ONE DROP: MY FATHER'S HIDDEN LIFE"
