Product description

The first volume of A Song of Ice and Fire, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. GAME OF THRONES is now a major TV series from HBO, starring Sean Bean. Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must ...and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty. The old gods have no power in the south, Stark's family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.

This book has it all and when you least expect it turns the world upside down

By Dmitry Rotenberg 14 May 2013 5

I don't know whether I get my paperback on time, I have already read for about 30 per cents of the book using my phone.
If you are hesitating whether it is worth it or not - IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!
My English level is Intermediate, but I've got a challenge to read the book in the original language. It is incredibly hard, because of tremendous diversity of new words I have never seen. I am even happy stretching time for my pleasure of reading the book, because of a lack of the language. :P

Hopefully, I am going to finish the book in a fortnight!

p.s. I have already bought the second book! :)

If you're considering to start reading this series, be prepared to get hooked & continue to purchase the rest of the books. A saga full of intrigue, you're guided along through the person battles & experiences of all sides of those in the realm. Easily addictive & very entertaining. Highly recommended to all, including those who don't usually read fantasy but are always looking for an engaging read.

Borrowed this from library 3 years ago and just HAD to have my own copy! Characters are realistic, the action is raw, the plot - complex. I'm already waiting for Book 6! Own it in book form, not e-reader, it's just not the same on e-format.

Review quote

'Of those who work in the grand epic fantasy tradition, Martin is by far the best' Time Magazine 'Colossal, staggering... Martin captures all the intoxicating complexity of the Wars of the Roses or Imperial Rome' SFX 'The sheer-mind-boggling scope of this epic has sent other fantasy writers away shaking their heads ... Its ambition: to construct the Twelve Caesars of fantasy fiction, with characters so venomous they could eat the Borgias' Guardian

Flap copy

`A Game of Thrones is a contemporary masterpiece of fantasy. The cold is returning to Winterfell, where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime. A time of conflict has arisen in the Stark family, as they are pulled from the safety of their home into a whirlpool of tragedy, betrayal, assassination, plots and counterplots. Each decision and action carries with it the potential for conflict as several prominent families, comprised of lords, ladies, soldiers, sorcerers, assassins and bastards, are pulled together in the most deadly game of all--the game of thrones.
