DescriptionThe first volume of A Song of Ice and Fire, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. GAME OF THRONES is now a major TV series from HBO, starring Sean Bean. Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must ...and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty. The old gods have no power in the south, Stark's family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.

  • outstanding5

Dmitry Rotenberg I don't know whether I get my paperback on time, I have already read for about 30 per cents of the book using my phone.
If you are hesitating whether it is worth it or not - IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!
My English level is Intermediate, but I've got a challenge to read the book in the original language. It is incredibly hard, because of tremendous diversity of new words I have never seen. I am even happy stretching time for my pleasure of reading the book, because of a lack of the language. :P

Hopefully, I am going to finish the book in a fortnight!

p.s. I have already bought the second book! :) by Dmitry Rotenberg

  • Prepare to be hooked5

Natalie If you're considering to start reading this series, be prepared to get hooked & continue to purchase the rest of the books. A saga full of intrigue, you're guided along through the person battles & experiences of all sides of those in the realm. Easily addictive & very entertaining. Highly recommended to all, including those who don't usually read fantasy but are always looking for an engaging read. by Natalie

  • Raw!!5

Gail Chan Borrowed this from library 3 years ago and just HAD to have my own copy! Characters are realistic, the action is raw, the plot - complex. I'm already waiting for Book 6! Own it in book form, not e-reader, it's just not the same on e-format. by Gail Chan

  • A Game of Thrones5

Martin Hasak One of the best works of modern fantasy I have ever had the pleasure to read. From the very beginning, Martin's very specific style of writing - raw, dark, cynical - makes you devour page after page, always wondering what is going to happen on the next page. Some characters you'll love, some you'll hate, some you'd wish they die - but you'll going to want to read more about each and every one of them. Not only does every character have very specific nature, but the story very well connects the enire "crew" so that even though you don't like one of the characters, you want to know what's happening around him. by Martin Hasak

Lisa McDonald I am down to the last few chapters of the 1st Book The Game of Thrones and am planning to finish it today. It is an excellent book that leads you into a fantasy world. I have been moved by the plight of the characters and enjoyed the many twists and turns in the story line. As others have quoted I have lost sleep, meals and time with friends to finish reading this book but its all been worth it. Now I just need the rest of the series to arrive !! by Lisa McDonald

  • Excellent!5

Thanassis Roumpies I am really enthused after reading this book. It is the best fantasy I've ever read. My only objection to this series is that at this time, on Jan 20th 2011, the series hasn't been completed! Bear that in mind, in case you want to start reading and you find yourself having finished the fourth book and will be waiting for a long time for the next! by Thanassis Roumpies
